| the story starts out with 2 young teenage girls talking about a video tape that when people watch it they die. when the first girl tells the 2nd girl about it. the 2nd girl has a concerned look on her face. the first girl asks why and explains that she had watched a similiar video a week earlier. shortly after that she dies. when the strange unexplained deaths start happening a reporter who's niece was the girl that died starts getting interested and watches a copy of the tape. worrying about her son and herself she teams up with a man to find the origins of the tape. she finds out that a young girl with psychic abilities named sadako made the tape. the woman thinks that if she can find sadako's corpse the cursed will be broken and her,her son and the man will be alright. wow! i saw the re-make before i saw this and i thought that because of that i wouldnt like it as much. but i was sadly mistaken. first off to put it blatently this movie was 100 times better than the remake. i will say that the ring was a good remake but not nearly as good as the original. why? you may ask. well let me compare the 2 for you. first i will compare "Sadako" the evil girl from Ringu to "Samara" the evil girl in the ring. i like the fact that in Ringu you do not see her hideous face until the end which makes it much scarier and suspenceful. i like the way they find sadako's body better in this one also. so overall Sadako from ringu was better than samara from the ring. next i will compare the characters from Ringu to the characters from The Ring. the woman in ringu and the ring are a tye. they both did exxelent jobs portraying there characters. next is the man. i thought he was much darker and more mysterious in ringu. so he was better in ringu. last is the little boy. in the ring the little boy was trying to hard to be haley joyle osmand. in ringu haley joyle osmand was like 2 so the little boy was better in ringu. last i will compare the overall movie. ringu was much better. it was much more atmospheric and dark like movies like this should be. one thing that i will say is better in the remake is the bodies after the people die. the faces in ringu just looks like when someone has there mouth open and is screaming. yet in the ring the faces are terrifying and hideous. some of the scariest scenes i've seen in a horror movie is when they show the bodies in the ring. but i think that the infamous end where she crawls out of the t.v is better in ringu because you get to see that wicked eye(shivers) gore: no, none actually. there is not a hint of blood in this movie. the only grosse part is when sadako's skin peels off revealing her skull. nudity: none! not a hint. thats too bad to. i would have liked to see some naked asians pace: great pace! which is surprising because in movies like this the pace is usually the weakest element scary: i think that the remake was overall scarier but the atmosphere made this one very scary. the only reason that i think the reamake is scarier is because of the faces on the bodies. wierd: strange, it had a very strange plot, feel and look to it. story: very original and intence. it had alot of elements most horror movies dont. including an unhappy ending. overall the movie is one of my all time favorites. it didnt have any gore or nudiy but i loved it just the same because the fact of the matter is that movies like this dont need that cheesy stuff to make them fun to watch. movies like this are classic. bravo! |
