| After a mans first born dies he decides to adopt a child from his local church. everything seems to be going well until "Damien" turns 5 years old. following his birthday a series of bizzare events start to occur. Many deaths in which references are made to his son. He is warned by a priest that his son is the anti-christ. soon the man starts to believe all of the strange occurences are signs that his son my very well be the son of the devil. i rented this movie along with Carrie at blockbuster. i was not dissapointed with either one. The Omen has all the right ingredients of a classic and i certainly enjoyed it. what brought the omens score down was a very weak ending that could have been very shocking and scary. which brings me to the other reason. the film did not scare me, the cover looked scary and gave me chills but the film didnt at all. i think that the film concentrated to much on the man and his wife instead of Damiens childhood. there were only a few and minor scenes that we acctualy saw Damien being well....the Spawn of satan! He never did anything that major and more deaths could have been administrated. The Hellhound(a dog from hell) could have also done a lot more in the film. Same thing with the evil nanny. until the end sequence the nanny doesnt do anything that proves that she is a diciple of satan. These things could have been alot better and if they were this film could have got a perfect or near perfect score. But enough griping! lets talk about why i liked the film. the film had a strong story that was setup well and held tight during the whole film. never confusing us or twisting the plot around. The acting was phenominal and the Photographer character was a great add on in my opinion. The hell hounds were terrific and managed to give me a few chills. you also feel for theb characters and are saddened by there pain. Now although The Omen may not be as good as other satanic horror films such as the Exorcist or Rosemary's baby. it still is a strong film that suffers from a few problems and a weak ending Gore: not too much but we do get an impaling, some stabbings and a great decapitation scene Nudity: none to speak of Pace: ussualy films such as this one have a huge problem with getting me bored and sadly reaching for the fast forward button. but thankfully this didnt occur Scary: not really, a few chilling scenes and some suspence. it could have been much much scarier Story: the best aspect of the film in my opinion. strong and remourcefull Overall a great movie that should be considered a classic and not forgotten. there could have been a lot more done with the film but i guess the director got lazy. still without a doubt one of the true greats in horror. i do wish there were more films like this today |
