| Miranda(Halle Berry) is a psychologist and an expert at knowing what is normal. She has a loving husband and a successful career but all of that is about to change because after a car accident she blacks out and wakes up to find herself on the otherside accused of a crime she does not recall commiting. The only way to prove that she is not giulty is too unravel the mystery of Gothika. I have recently found myself getting more and more into "psychological thrillers" my mother also enjoys them so whenever one comes out we usually treat ourselves to a good old fashion "mindfuck" Gothika got average at best reviews and after leaving the theatre i honestly can't tell you why. I thought the film as a "movie" without the horror was a great film with wonderful character developement and a strikingly good story. Add in a little horror and it makes this film a little over averege. Sure some of the plot twists were a little sketchy(I mean why wouldnt they have questioned her about the whole "not alone" thing) and sometimes the plot turns came off maybe a little to obvious. Gothika may have its faults as does every other movie but when you get down to it, Gothika is a fun ride that doesnt let you get bored and messes with your mind the whole way threw. i suggest seeing it in the theatres if you want to jump a few times and soil yourself right next to your first date. Gore: some graghic scenes of mutilated bodies are shown in small but disturbing doases Nudity: a long scene in the shower but the chicks who are shown naked are not lets say "desierable" Pace: the movie lets its story open itself up and just when you think its gonna slow down "BOOM!!!!!!!" it punches you right in the face and doesnt slow down until its chilling conclusion. Scary: I'll at admit that i jumped on several occasions with a few scenes that just pop right out at you, but i did expect it to be scarier Story: I thought even though it pulled from other scources it did a great job at making itself dark and original with a plotline that made you think. Overall i suggest to see it in theatres to get the biggest impact. but if you dont get the oppurtunity than it is still worth a rental or maybe a buy if you want to cough up the few extra bucks. |
