Scary:3/5
Story:4/5
Overall:4/5
A new york woman is biulding the house of her dreams, or so she thinks. It turns out to be a nightmarish ride filled with zombies, witchcraft, creepy blind chicks and hell itself!

"Lucio Fulci"(R.I.P) has been responsible for some of the all time greatest in underground zombie horror. He has made such great gorefests as "Zombie" and "Don't torture a Duckling". He has been my favorite director ever since i first watched "Zombie" and after watching this work of art i have an even greater respect for the man.
What sets aside "The beyond" from other "Fulci" movies is the atmosphere. In "Zombie" we get all the gore and originality of "Fulci" but we don't get that chilling atmosphere as we do here. The beggining scene is one of the most disturbing and atmospheric scenes in any "Fulci" movie and that creepy, Dare i say "Argento" like atmosphere carries on throughout the entire film. Don't worry gore fans, the movie isnt all about atmosphere, as with all "Fulci" movies we get a mirage of original and disgusting death scenes such as a horrible crucifixion and a man being slowly eaten by tarantulas. "It's still a "Fulci" movie, Trust me!".
Now about the story. I have seen it 5 times now and it took  me a while to grasp the entire concept. It may seem confusing at first but once you get your finger on it you will appreciate it. The film does have i'ts downs but there the same as most "Fulci" flaws. Poor dubbing, atrocious acting and sometimes questionable writing. But Aint that what makes us love "Fulci!"

Gore: HAHA ofcourse, but i dont feel like explaining all of them so read above to find out some of the best scenes.

Nudity: I am a firm believer that ALL Italian zombie films should have atleast one full frontal of a chick in them but "Lucio" decided to mess with us in this one.Tricky

Pace: thank god we don't get that grueling 20 minute break between the gore as we did with Zombie. whoah!

Scary: creepy in some scenes and just plain sick in others. The movie does have its moments of suspence and some terrifying sequences with the blind chick.

Story: confusing but good, once you grasp it you will appreciate it more.

Overall the film carried its own and did a good job doing it. With an original concept, disgusting gore and "Fulci's" direction its deffinitly worth a buy.
