The Balrog

The Balrog is an ancient fire demon whom all other creatures in middle-earth fear. It is "a shadow blacker than black".The balrog in the movie is the last of the fire demons who was awakened by the dwarves in Moria digging to deep for treasure. It lurks in the caves and halls of Moria - a dwarf hall in the mountain once used by the dwarves for treasure delving.
