Let me say this first: I am damn proud of this Timberwolves team. Now I know they lost Game 2 yesterday, facing an 0-2 deficit, pushed to the brink of their 6th consecutive first round exit - but if you saw the way they played last night, you would be proud too. The Timberwolves excuted well, shot over 50%, poured in 110 points, out-rebounded the Mavs 46-45, got to the line 37 times, got career Playoff numbers from Garnett (31pts, 18reb, 4ast, 3blk, 2stl), Wally (25pts), Chauncey (25pts). And yet, they lost the game. KG responded to the recent criticisms - including those from Magic Johnson, of all people - finding the perfect balance between attacking and passing. As the Mavericks threatened to pull away, Garnett demanded the ball, maneuvering his way into the lane - with 3 to 4 Mavs on him each time - and attacked the basket. He was fouled nearly everytime, expending so much energy. He's just one guy, you know. With sweat drippin' off his head, huffin' and puffin', Garnett gave everything he had. The Timberwolves gave everything they had. Screw the media and their "Garnett-can't-step-up" crap. He poured his heart and soul into last night game. What more can you demand of him? I refuse to believe that Dallas is a better team, but they sure have a lot of options. The Wolves can't effectively double-team anybody. They can't leave Nash open, or Nowitzki, or Finley, or Najera, or Van Exel, or LaFrentz. Did you see the looks Nowitzki had? That cat was single-teamed the whole night. Dallas scored and scored, three-pointer after three-pointer, Finley slam, Nowitzki for three, Finley slam again, Van Exel jumper. It just kept comin' and comin'. What a nightmare. It probably wasn't a good idea to run with the Mavs - because you can't beat them at their own game. They have too much firepower on the perimeter. The Timberwolves have got to slow the game down, play their own pace, with efficient and deliberate offense. And don't turn the ball over, because everytime they do, Mavericks will fastbreak them to death. I know the media criticism will continue to rain down on the Wolves and KG, but last time I checked, you have to win three games to advance. This one ain't over yet.

Game 2 is on tonight. As a Kevin Garnett fan - and a Timberwolves fan - I am very nervous and anxious. A lot has been said in the news by the media about KG's unselfishness. Garnett has taken a lot heat for his tendency to want to pass the ball first. I always defend KG and argue against these criticisms, but I do see where they are coming from. The thing about KG that most people don't understand is that he's not looking for shots - he's looking for plays. It's hard to shoot when you have three guys on you everytime you touch the ball. That's what happens whenever KG catches the ball, defenders come swarming at him, pestering him. So what are you suppose to do? Well, you pass! When you have three guys on you, it means two of your teammates are open. The logical thing to do is to pass. Over the years, I've watch Garnett closely - he always looks to pass first when he catches the ball. That's usually a good thing, as Garnett get his teammates involved and he himself averaged 5.2 assists this season. But I think in the Playoffs, he's gotta be more aggressive. Yesterday, I was watching Tracy McGrady against the Hornets, and he looked to attack almost every time he caught the ball. KG needs to do that more in the Playoffs. Not necessarily taking more shots...but looking to go hard to the basket. Also, I've noticed that sometimes on offense, KG doesn't even touch the ball. His teammates definitely need to pass to him on every possession - especially when he's callling for it - and let him make the decisions. If he wants to pass, he'll pass. If he wants to attack, he'll attack. Let him decide - he's a smart player. On many occasions during Game 1, I'd be like, "get him the damn ball!" So when the critical Game 2 begins tonight, let's all give the ball the Kevin. It's his team. It's his game. Let him create.

The Timberwolves' game 1 woes continue, losing 94-101 to the Mavericks. They played well, and they played hard - you can see the fast break points and the rebounding efforts. But they didn't excute too well - turnovers (19) and missing easy shots. Kevin didn't shoot particulary well, but he had 2 to 3 guys on him whenever he touched the ball. He did haul down 21 boards, scoring 19 points to go along with 6 assists. It was a frustrating game for me to watch. Everytime the Wolves made a run, the Mavericks would drain a three, or score a couple of jumpers. I must say, Dallas had luck on their side - did y'all see that fluke half-court buzzer-beatin' three Nash tossed to end the third quarter? That was just painful to watch. And then LaFrentz banked a three to start the fourth quarter. It was just awful. The Mavericks stuck daggers into the hearts of T-Wolves fans. It was Nash, Finley, Van Exel, LaFrentz, and oh yes, Nowitzki. Was it just me, or did the Mavericks' court seem so tiny - with players crowding the lane, arms everywhere - KG had no room to operate. He was called for travelling twice, and I swear he was fouled on one of them. Game 2 is on Wednesday...let's see what happens.

I haven't updated in a while, been pretty busy with stuff. But I'm always around, and I'm always a Kevin Garnett fan. Well, looks like the Timberwolves have that 5th seed locked up. There's no way they're finishing 4th, so homecourt is out of their reach. Their first-round opponent is still up in the air right now, with the Spurs, Mavs, and Lakers bunched up together. Doesn't matter though, I believe the T-Wolves can beat any of these teams. As for KG himself, looks like he's gonna finish with yet another 20-10-5 season. That's three consecutive years now he's done this - pretty impressive stuff. He will finish the season with career-highs in rebounding and assists. I've always said that Garnett is the best all-around player in the NBA. Probably he and T-Mac. Alright, Playoffs start this coming Saturday. I can't wait.

The Timberwolves are really in a slump, losing 6 out of their last 8 games. Garnett was ejected yesterday for the second time in his career. He got into it with Tim Duncan. The two of them went nose-to-nose and KG was screamin' in Duncan's face. In the words of StarTribune writer, Jerry Zgoda, "Garnett and Duncan began talking, then started swearing and Garnett poked his finger in Duncan's face." Duncan refused to address the media after the game, but KG chose to do so. He said, "the situation got out of hand. I should have walked away from [garbage] like that. My focus is trying to turn this thing around. As a team we haven't been playing at a level we're accustomed to. My focus is not on Duncan right now...tonight, it was two guys who were competing who exchanged some words. It's as simple as that. Tim had words, I had words and the refs had to do what they felt like was the best thing to stay in control of the game...it was just a conversation that the ref didn't agree with. I don't know if he was trying to take control of the game or what. [Duncan] and I had our usual kind of staredown and I don't know how it escalated. If you're going to do something, do something. Don't just sit and talk. Do something or shut up." You know what, it good to see KG show some emotions. Let out some frustrations. Maybe this will spark the team or something. Sadly, KG managed to score 8 points before being tossed...ending his league-leading (and 8th ALL-TIME) 338 consecutive games of double-digit scoring:( They play the Blazers tonight - on national TV. Hopefully the T-Wolves can do something to turn themselves around. They've come too far and worked to hard to just let the season fall apart. They're not on pace to win 60 games anymore...but there is still a good chance of securing homecourt advantage in the first round.

Yesterday, Kevin Garnett was officially named a starter for the 2002 All-Star Game in Philadelphia. He received a total of 880,692 votes from fans all over the world. The Western Conference forward position was stuffed with talent: Garnett, Webber, Duncan, Malone, Wallace, Nowitzki, Stojakovic, Marion, and more. It's a great honor for KG to be voted number 1 among all of them. Last year, KG was ousted by both Duncan and Webber during the late stages of voting, but Rick Adelman let him start in place of the injured Shaq. Anyways, this will be KG's 5th appearance - 4th as a starter - as an All-Star. And he will be joined in the frontline by Shaq and Duncan. Wanna know whom I voted for? East: MJ, Iverson, Olajuwon, Antonio Davis, Vince (hey, what can I say, I live in T-Dot, so I'm a Raptors fan). West: Gary Payton, Penny, David Robinson, C-Webb, KG.

Well, the Timberwolves' only regular season visit to T-Dot was spoiled big time by the Raptors. With the 100-107 loss, the T-Wolves have fallen to 4th in the West. KG and Company never led in the game, and the Raptors out-hustled and just plainly out-played the T-Wolves. KG had 15pts, 8reb, 6ast, 2stl. And with those 6 assists, Garnett is now the Timberwolves' all-time leader in that category - surpassing Pooh Richardson. He's also the T-Wolves' all-time leader in points and rebounds. But the loss itself was bad. Raptors led by as much as 25 points - 20 points at the start of the fourth quarter. The Hack-a-Montross worked pretty well, but we were just in too deep of a hole te get any closer than 5 points. I must say, though, I'm proud of how the T-Wolves refused to give up. As long as the clock is ticking, there's always hope. We play Atlanta tonight.
Thurs, Jan 24, 2002
Ouch...that's one to forget. The Timberwolves were blown out by the Pistons last night in Detroit, losing by 21 points. Hey! Raptors up next in T-Dot on Friday. KG comes to town again. This should be fun. I'll be watching this one closely, rootin' for the Timberwolves all the way.
Wed, Jan 23, 2002
Great news last night for all Timberwolves fans. The Spurs, Lakers, and Kings all lost. That leaves the Timberwolves 0.5 games behind the league leading Kings...and 1.0 games ahead of our Midwest rival Mavericks. You know what? The Timberwolves are on pace to win 61 games. 61! That would be somethin' special. We won 47 last year, and 50 the year before that...so we've taken a huge leap. There is a nice article on USATODAY.COM talking about the Timberwolves - specifically Wally and his improvement. It also talks a bit about Kevin Garnett. The Minnesota Timberwolves are finally starting to get the recognition they deserve. By the way, His Airness also had something nice to say about KG: "Garnett's playing with a lot of energy. He continues to improve each year...Garnett is moving in the right direction, without a doubt. He's constantly getting better. The guy is constantly finding ways to get better." We play in Detroit tonight - that's a team we should beat. Kevin Garnett needs 7 more assists to become the Timberwolves all-time leader in that category (he's already the leader in points and rebounds).

His Airness and the Wizards played the Timberwolves last night, and the latter held on to win. Garnett had a nice game, with 23pts, 6reb, 9ast. It's great to have Terrell back, and he had a huge impact on the game despite playing limited minutes and coming off the bench. We lost to the Suns a couple nights ago...Marbury killed us with his clutch three. Ah well, it just didn't bounce our way. After beating the Warriors and the Wizards, the Timberwolves are still in 2nd place, breathin' down the Kings. I love the Kings and C-Webb - and I'm happy for their success - but hopefully the Timberwolves will leapfrog them soon.

It's good to be ridin' high on a blistering 9-game winning streak. Remember how last year the T-Wolves won 11 straight? Well, it was more or less around this time of year. The team seems to be executing on all facets of the game. Plus it is great to have Joe back. Garnett says, "there's a vibe in the air. We know each other. We've been through everything: the fighting, the wrestling matches, every situation you could throw at us. We've come full circle and we're focusing on each other. It feels real good around here right now. I think we're paying attention to it a little more because we want to set some kind of standard at home. We want to have some pride at home. The streak is in the back of our minds, but it's not driving us. What's driving us is each other. We think we're good." Well, I hope we finish January as hot as we've been because we're so close to catching those Lakers. Phoenix up next.

On Monday, Kevin Garnett was named the Western Conference Player of the Week by the NBA. This is KG's second Player of the Week honor this year. He led the Timberwolves to a perfect 4-0 record during the week, while stuffing the boxscores in every statistical category, averaging 28.8pts, 9.3reb, 6.5ast. Ray Allen was the Eastern Conference counterpart.

I guess I have more to say today. I just want to let y'all know that Kevin Garnett is the cover boy of the latest issue of SLAM. So hurry and go cop a copy right now. While you're at it, go to slamonline.com and download the cool exclusive KG wallpaper for your desktop. There are 3 new SLAM wallpapers, but only 1 of them is KG. This is KG's third SLAM cover appearance (but the first one was with Steph, so this is technically his second). KG gets a lot of love from SLAM.

8 straight, y'all! The Timberwolves are howlin'. Last night, we went up against THE GREATEST, who had 35pts. But KG was spectacular as well, dropping 31pts, 6reb, 7ast, 1stl. Why the low 6reb you ask? Well, KG was guarding MJ on the perimeter a lot in the game. Jordan did blow by Garnett a couple of times - for a dunk ,a layup, and a couple of jumpers - but Garnett went right back with a few 3-pointers. Even though Mike wasn't guarding KG, it was a great back-and-forth show. Perhaps KG sums it up best: "what you saw was two opponents tryin' to get an edge. I'm in the wonderful world of Michael's land. I definitely had to keep an eye on him - he definitely has the ability to heat up. I don't know, I was just tryin' to be aggresive. I was fun, man."

Hey what up party people! Whoo, what a game last night against the mighty Lakers. We thoroughly outplayed the defending champions. All I can say is, WOW. I know it's just one win in the regular season - but still, it was a confidence-building win. To know that we can beat the Lakers - and plus we played without Terrell, Joe, and Gary (sprained ankle in 1st quarter) - this is a confidence booster. I was following the game on NBA.COM, rootin' for the Timberwolves. Note to TNT/TBS, NBC, TSN: y'all better put more T-Wolves into your televising schedule. Anyways, Wally and KG were tearin' it up. The two of them outplayed the Lakers' two superstars. Wally registered 34pts, and slowed Kobe down considerably. And KG is always KG, pouring in 32pts, 9reb, 8ast, 3blk, 4stl, and 0 turnovers. He made three 3-pointers, man - all in the second quarter. Since Gary went down in the 1st stanza, KG had to help out guarding Shaq. That's not easy, since Shaq outweighs KG by more than 100lb. But Kevin turned on the jets, and had 23pts, 6reb, 5ast before halftime. According to Startribue writer, Steve Aschburner: "[Garnett], on one play, had O'Neal turn smack into him under the basket yet wrenched the ball away from the Lakers center." And when Chancey got into foul difficulty, KG played the point and ran the offense at various times. He guarded Kobe, and ran inside to help guard Shaq. So with our win - and with the Spurs' loss to the Sixers last night - we are now in FIRST PLACE in the Midwest Division, giving us the second place seed in the West (right behind the team we just beat). Wow. What a great game last night for all Timberwolves fans. Well, let's take this win and move on, and not rest on our laurels, shall we. Who we got tonight...Mike & Company.
Thurs, Jan 10, 2002
Some good news and some bad news. The good news is that we beat the Sonics last night for our sixth straight W. KG filled the boxscores as usual, with 29pts, 10reb, 5ast, 4blk, and 2stl. Anthony Peeler went crazy from beyond the arc, comin' off the bench to drop 7 threes. Gary Trent and Chauncey were more than solid with 14pts and 16pts, respectively. Now the bad news...we got the Lakers tomorrow. Man, we never do well against the Lakers. I recall that we did beat them once last year - January 31, 2001, part of our insane 11-game win streak - but Shaq wasn't in the lineup, so that didn't count. If the Timberwolves are going to be recognized as an elite team in the NBA, we have to learn how to beat the Lakers. So far, all the indications suggest that we'll have trouble tomorrow, but I believe in this T-Wolves team. I believe in KG. So that's all the indication I need.

4 straight and counting! Woohoo! The Timberwolves are on another roll, creaming the Hawks last night in Atlanta. KG had yet another all-around game, with 22 points, 14 rebounds, 8 assists, 1 block, and 1 steal. He's rebounding like crazy this year. Check it, 12.8 per. I must also comment on the recent awesome play of Wally. He had 23 points last night, but tore it up against the Jazz on Friday with 37 points. Had the Spurs lost yesterday to the Mavericks, would've regained 1st place atop the Midwest. But, the Spurs won, so not just yet for us. All in good time, though. All in good time.

KG and Wally had great games last night, and the Timberwolves held on to beat the Trailblazers. It's always a interesting matchup between KG and Rasheed. Both of them made three 3-pointers in the game. KG had 27 points, 16 rebound, 6 assists, 2 blocks, 1 steal - as usual, another great all-around game. It stinks that we've fallen to 5th in the West, but we're not that far from the teams ahead of us. On a side note, today is the last day of 2001 - and I must say, for me personally, 2001 has been a great year. I'm a little sad to see it go. But honestly, time waits for nobody; it just flies, know what I mean? Anyways, happy new year, everyone.

Close game against the Nuggets last night. The T-Wolves nearly blew a 15-point lead in the fourth quarter. But no harm done, we still won, and that's the most important thing. Our record now stands 19-8. The Spurs have dropped 2 straight, so now we have a better chance of catching them. I'm also a bit worried about Dallas, who is right behind us at 19-9. A bit off topic, but I hope everybody is having a good time during this holiday season, staying safe and being with your family and friends. Y'all take care.
Sun, Dec 23, 2001
With our win last night against the Bulls, and with the Kings dropping to the Clippers, we have now reclaimed the 3rd seed in the Western Conference standings. What bugs me is that the Spurs are still up there. The Spurs are like a nemesis to the T-Wolves, so it really annoys me that they're number 1 right now. Oh well. On a brighter note, KG nearly picked up a triple-double last night, dishing out 9 assists to go along with his 14 points and 11 boards. He is now averaging 5.5 assists. That ain't bad for a 7-footer, huh? Nuggets up next.

Nobody likes losing streaks. A 3-game slide hurts when you're trying to assert yourself as a legitimate contender. Make no mistake, though - the Minnesota Timberwolves are are legit team. We - and by "we," I mean the team and the T-Wolves fans - look to stop the bleeding tonight when we host the Hornets. Terrell is still unavailable for tonight, so Chauncey has to bring his A game. He didn't play well the other night against the Nets. And, well, KG's KG. He's going to dominate no matter what. Some people say KG's not aggressive enough. Well I say there's a reason for that: he gets his teammates involved. Ever notice the 5.3 dimes down his stat line? KG picks his moments, and he knows when to turn it on and when to help his teammates.
