Night
The aroma of freshly fallen rain fills the air. A
warm wind blows softly, creating gentle, soothing
music as it tickles the chimes hung here and there
around the neighborhood. Stars twinkle brightly, sprinkled
between the clouds that float across the
sky.
I stand on the porch as I did with you almost a year
ago now. Then, your presence alone brought comfort to
the troubled thoughts in my mind. The scent of your
cigarette burning slowly felt like home. No words
needed to be spoken to convey the messages hanging
thick in the air. That night, you stayed beside me as
the me I buried deep inside my subconscious cried
itself to sleep thinking only of its troubles and the
me I allowed you to see drank heavily of your presence
and allowed itself to become intoxicated with happiness.
Tonight, as the sounds and scents bring back a night
I've treasured in my memories, I find myself wondering
if there will ever be another night like it. This
time just two people sharing a beautiful night,
sharing the silence, sharing thoughts without
speaking, sharing a friendship blossomed into an
almost fairy-tale love that needs a simple smile more
than the vocalizaton of the feeling...
