Entry for April 24, 2007

Well race fans

The 4am put on a show this weekend.   The 4am Gariss Racing/Premier Homes entry started with a second place finish in the heat race of Friday nights show at Mid-America Speedway.  This finish put the car in the Pole Dash and Jenkins put the car in the third spot for the A-main.  The first start of the A-main produced a wreck and a flat tire for the pole car of Sherman Davis.  This slid the inside row up putting the 4am on the pole and for when the green finally dropped the 4am shot into the lead.  With about a four car length lead the car looked like it was on a rail in three and four and the rut that had formed in turn one was negotiable.  Gary Lee Maier chased down the 4am and on lap 7 with an outside pass Gary Lee took over the point.  A lap later the Yellow flag flew and on the restart the Gariss Racing/Premier Homes 4am bounced through the rut in turn one and lost two more spots.  After that the car never turned the same.  Not sure whether it was driver or car fade, but regardless of the finish the start was what needed to be put together for a turn in the 4am success this season.

Saturday's show started with a good heat race, but ASCS action is based off the number of cars passed rather than purely off of finishing place.  This fact put the 4am in the 2nd B-main.  Travis ran hard and the car responded with a second place finish that put the 4am in the A-main.  Unfortunately, Saturday's track was a dust bowl and I think the many high speed cars from other divisions on the track before the sprint cars sealed the track surface and made the track very difficult to navigate.  The car ran at the back of the pack most of the night, but when you start on a track like this at the back it takes something out of the ordinary for you to get to the front.

Over all a great weekend for the 4am Gariss Racing/Premier Homes team.  "One of only three cars to lead the A-mains all weekend.  Not a small accomplishment. Others that did a great job this weekend by my standard.  Friday night I was really impressed with Passmore.  Kevin Battles piloted a midget to a really A class job overall even with some mishaps during the racing.  I think the others to note are the unsponsored car of Sean McClelland/Hefley Motorsports car.  And the obvious Gary Lee Maier and the maybe not so obvious outstanding performance of Sherman Davis.  Wow, Sherman could you get it any closer to to fence.  Great job.  Thanks Mid-America for a great time this weekend.
