Digital Bath: 5. Where do you see GA going in the next year or two?
Chick: I don't expect many changes to GA gameplay. Perhaps a few minor adjustments and the usual variety in factors for research, shields, system and alliance sizes, and the like. The biggest and most important addition needed to GA is more players. Our peak was 2200, and I would like to double that in the next year, maybe more. I think a larger player base will make the game more fun.
Digital Bath: 6. What other plans does Online Worlds have?
Chick: We are presently working on Mage Realms, which will be much like GA but with a fantasy theme. Some of the differences from GA will include different military types for different Races, a more structured War system, and no alliances. Beyond MR, we have plans for a better MUD, and two other games from still different genres, at the moment still classified.
Digital Bath: 7. What would you tell someone who is thinking about signing up for GA?
Chick: Go for it! And once you do sign up, take the time to read the Game Help, the Newbie Starting Guide, and talk with others in the game. Put a little effort into learning how to play well, so you don't get frustrated early.
Digital Bath: 8. What do you do when you aren't dealing with OLW/GA?
Chick: I am a National level tournament Bridge player and teacher, and a Certified Flight Instructor in gliders.
Digital Bath: 9. What has working on GA taught you?
Chick: Internet programming is the obvious answer. I had to learn HTML, PHP, MySQL, and even a little Perl. But it has also taught me a lot about dealing with people. I have had to manage programmers from here to New Zealand (love ya, Fugs) and deal with hundreds of people I've never met, make decisions about policy and about rules and rule enforcement. It's also been a great deal of fun to connect with the younger generation more than I normally do in real life (I'm 57 years old). I have really enjoyed getting to know so many people from all over the world and from so many different backgrounds and ages.
Digital Bath: 10. That GA history site sure is great isn't it?
Chick: Yes, you folks have done a great job, and I'm really excited to see it developing so well! Awesome!
