MARCELLA MESKER

A general photo and information page on Marcella Mesker, Netherlands.

(Marcella was one of the first players I started following, and enjoyed some wonderful tennis, and in particular visits to the Netherlands.. still one of my favourite Countries.. To all those who know Marcella, she is just someone very special, one of the nicest persons you could ever meet).

Born on the 23rd May 1959, now a retired Mother, and with partner Martin Bohm, they have a daughter and still live in the Netherlands.  Marcella reached 31 in the world rankings, but was a very successful doubles player, with her elegant serve and volley game. Her most regular partner was Christianne Jolissaint from Switzerland. Marcella won the Oklahoma singles title in 1986 and collected a total of ten doubles titles.

Marcella was a regular Federation Cup player for the Netherlands, and was No 1. in the Netherlands from 1981 - 1986. Unfortunately Marcella suffered a bad injury to her cruciate ligaments at Wimbledon in 1986, which shortened her career, when she was climbing the ranking steadily.

If Marcella is remembered, it may be because of her wonderful personality, typical of the Netherlander, and she contributed a lot to tennis of the court and was 6 years on the WTA Board and 4 years as Secretary. She received the WTA Player Service award in 1986 and the Karen Krantzcke Sportsmanship award in 1984.
