*My line begins with John Philyaw, who supposedly was from Darlington, S.C. Born approx. 1800. It was handed down that he was of Indian Descent, and that his occupation was Chair Maker. John married a Catherine Yarber; b. 1801 in South Carolina.
(*Notes: John and Catherina are listed in the Caldwell County, N.C. Census, years 1850 and 1860. However, in the year 1870, John is listed without Catherina.
July 27, 1853 John Philyaw is listed as owning 100 acres on the S. Side of Greene Mt. And in Nov. 1858, John is listed as owning 200 acres on Johns River, Estes Mill Creek, N.C.
Deedbook Records: Jones County, N.C. 1787 - 1792 John Philyaw is shown to own land adjoining land to Samuel Johnston. (The original Grant was that of Elisha Blackshear.)
(Also Noteworthy: I have a copy of a Will of, Seny Mashborne, Will Book 2, Onslow County,N.C. dated Aug. 10, 1847. "My wishes is for one hundred dollars out of the above named property to be given to Catharine Philyaw". witnessed by James and Margaret Brown. Clerk of Court, Jasper Estridge.)

Gideon Philyaw b. Apr. 22, 1839, Caldwell, N.C.( He was the twin to Simeon) He died Feb. 9, 1925 in Caldwell, N.C.
He married Martha Teague, Mar. 26, 1862 in Lenoir, N.C. All I have on Martha is that she was born in 1845, in N.C. And that she was said to be full blood Cherokee.
