Not the Same…

Wayne had been hurt by Ryan's strange behaviour that morning. He was oblivious to any reason why Ryan would be so angry. It wasn't until later that day that Wayne was called into Dan's office. Like Ryan's meeting, Drew was the only other person present. Wayne greeted them cheerfully and sat down.
"Now you're probably wondering why you've been called in here," Dan began.
          "Well yeah," Wayne nodded.
Dan paused. "There's no easy way to say this, but it was decided amongst the producers that it was time for a changing of the cast."
"Oh," Wayne said in a low voice.
"We have therefore terminated the contracts of Chip, Brad, Greg, Colin and Ryan," Dan announced.
Drew looked at his feet and wrung his hands. Wayne's mouth fell open.
"No…you can't do that," he eventually spat.
          "Already done," Dan said coldly.
"How do you possibly plan to replace them…especially Colin and Ryan?" Wayne demanded.
"We did a lot of searching for the right replacements Wayne…I'm sure the audience will warm to them quickly," Dan quipped.
"Huh, you'll be lucky…the fans will go mental," Wayne hissed.
"It’s the concept that counts," Dan insisted.
"So what made you decide to keep me?" Wayne asked.
"Your talent and vibrant, youthful enthusiasm…that's what we're looking towards now," Dan chirped as his mobile phone rang. He excused himself form the room.
Wayne turned to Drew. "You let them do this?" he snapped.
"I didn't have say in it," Drew grumbled.
Wayne couldn't put his anger into words and turned away from Drew.
Wayne marched into the green room after his meeting and couldn't even begin to calm his anger. Three men he'd never seen before greeted him and he couldn't help but hate them immediately.
He shakily made himself a coffee and sat down. How could anyone replace the others? Greg's sarcasm, Brad's goofiness, Chip's brilliant voice, Ryan's ability to make anything hilarious and Colin's…Colin's…well Colin.
"Any tips for us Wayne?" asked one of the men.
"Be more Colin," Wayne sulkily replied.
The man looked confused. "How's that gonna help?"
Wayne didn't know how to respond. He got up and stormed out of the room.

Wayne felt slightly calmer when it got around to filming, although it just felt weird not being surrounded by the others and he couldn't help but glare at Drew.
The first game they played was "Let’s Make a Date." Wayne was doing the choosing and he managed to feign his enthusiasm, even though he didn't find them particularly funny. Especially the guy on the end who was supposed to be John Wayne. John Wayne - that was Ryan's bad impression not this new loser.
Even more painful was the hoedown. Wayne was sat at the desk and could barely watch as the three unknowns and Drew fumbled their way through it. At least when the others stuffed up it was funny.
When the filming finished Drew wandered over to Wayne.
"You did really well tonight buddy," he said meekly.
"I ain't your buddy Drew," Wayne scowled and pushed past him.
As he left the abc studios that night, Wayne realised why Ryan had been so pissed that morning and in all honesty he didn't blame him. He was feeling the same way. He mightn't have lost the show but because of that he'd lost his friends.
