Brad found Ritza thumping her PIN into the ATM. He stopped nearby and leaned casually against the wall. Ritza received a wad of cash from the machine, stuffed it in her bag and pondered the receipt"
Brad stopped daydreaming when he noticed Ritza was wandering in his direction. She strolled over and dropped her screwed up receipt in the bin then looked up and caught Brad's eye"
"Don't I know you?" she asked"
"I shouldn't think so," Brad replied smoothly"
"Ooh you're American," Ritza smiled"
"Don't hold it against me," Brad chuckled"
"Darling…I can think of better things to hold against you," Ritza purred"
Brad quickly wiped the shocked look from his face, and gave Ritza a long look before he spoke again"
"So what are you doing here…are you a local?.
"No, I'm only passing through…I've got some business to attend to," Ritza breathed"
"Let me guess…you're a model." Even as he said it, Brad knew it was lame"
Ritza laughed and tossed her head back. At that moment Brad thought she looked very little like a psycho woman. In fact with her long black hair and dark eyes he thought she was quite beautiful"
"Are you chatting me up?" Ritza asked"
"Would you like me to chat you up?" Brad countered"
Ritza crossed her arms and studied Brad. "So what are you doing here?" she asked, changing the subject"
"I'm on holiday," Brad perked"
"So why'd you come here…to Katoomba?" Ritza giggled"
"A friend suggested it," Brad mused, shaking his head"
"So you're here with someone?" Ritza said slightly disappointed"
"No one I can't lose," Brad smiled"
Ritza pursed her lips and then smiled"
"Would you like me to show you some of the sights?" she asked"
"Hmm let's see…I can either wander lost on my own or get escorted by a beautiful women…choices, choices, choices," Brad jeered"
Ritza tilted her head to the side, a smile still firmly on her face"
"I would love for you to show me the sights," Brad said genuinely"
"Thought you might…my car is this way," Ritza perked and began walking toward a car park. Brad followed obediently"
Ritza's car was not what Brad had expected - a purple VW Beetle, with cow print seat covers and a "Bad Bitch" sticker on the back"
"I didn't catch you name," Ritza announced as she unlocked the car"
"Sorry…it’s Brad," he smiled"
"Ritza," she replied as they got in"
"That's an unusual name," Brad stated"
"Not to me," Ritza grinned and started the engine"
She revved the engine several times and skidded out of the car park"
They drove in silence for a while. Brad wasn't sure what the hell he was actually doing. Firstly he was alone in a car with a woman who had recently tried to kill him and secondly, he was stumped as to why she didn't recognise him"
"So where in the States are you from?" Ritza piped up catching Brad mid thought"
"San Diego," Brad lied"
"I'm so jealous…I love the states…I keep meaning to go, but I never get the chance," Ritza sighed"
"Because of your job?" Brad asked"
"Ah…kinda. That and my mother would have a fit," Ritza jeered"
"Yeah, mothers are like that," Brad perked, surprised at her openness. "I remember the first time I went to New York, my mom gave me a lecture about what to do if I got mugged…just give them your money, smile and then go straight to the police..
Ritza laughed. "My mum usually tells me not to pick up strange men..
"Oh oh…guess I shouldn't meet her just yet then," Brad said faking a gasp"
"Gee you're a fast mover…wanting to meet my folks already?" Ritza mused"
"No…I didn't mean for it to sound like…it's just…I was…" Brad fell into a flap"
"Don't worry about it," Ritza smiled. "Now…after an internal debate with myself…I think I'll take you to Parkes..
"I can see a park anywhere," Brad said, slightly miffed"
"Not a park…PARKES…it’s where the radio telescope that sent the pictures of the moon landing around the world is situated," Ritza gushed"
"No way…that was done in the States," Brad scorned"
"Sorry to break it to you Hon…gee, haven't you seen the movie The Dish?" Ritza retorted"
Brad looked at Ritza blankly"
"Of course not…it’s Australian…small budget job…" Ritza sarced"
"Ahh…I promise to get the video when I get back to my hotel," Brad promised, giving Ritza puppy dog eyes"
"Liar," Ritza jeered"
"Hey, I'll have you know I've seen some Australian movies… and sure I didn't understand Crocodile Dundee and Priscilla just freaked me out…but I sat and watched them all the same," Brad grumbled"
"Did I say I was bagging you…no I don't think so," Ritza stated"
"I don't think you like Americans very much," Brad announced, faking emotion"
Ritza cracked up. "Most of them shit me but you…you're cute..
Brad gave Ritza a warm smile and contemplated his options, like how much would it hurt to jump from a moving vehicle?
