Wow, a whole two years later! Time for an update! We've been having a pretty rotten spring/summer so far. Not much in the way of sun at all. Things are slowly coming to life though. Here are a few examples of what's been growing.
This picture was taken on April 27th. You can still see the snow in the background!!! This was the earliest I've ever had the greenhouse going but by that point the snow is SUPPOSED to be gone ... You can't tell, but I had 31 trays in there. I planted three times as much as I usually do, so it was full to bursting before too long.
Here's what I had in it at that point: Pansies (4 colors), Violas, Gaillardia, Petunias (6 colors), Perennial Alyssum, Arabis (Rock Cress), Candytuft, Dianthus (4 varieties), Stella D'Oro Lily, Marigold (4 varieties), Saponaria, Salvia, Sage, Gazania, Sweet William, Verbena, Lobelia, Lavender, Lemon Basil, Thyme, Green Onion. Mostly perennials and hardy annuals. At that point I was waiting for warmer weather so I could harden off the perennial seedlings to make room for more tender annuals in the greenhouse.
Spanish Lavender. This is one of the plants I grew this year, thinking it was perennial to our zone, but they tell me it's not. Rats.
I guess I must have been in another world not to have noticed this one before now! We have a deck we're going to tear down and replace in a few weeks. The other day I noticed this under the steps!!!! I've been told that it's a columbine. (I didn't think it was because the flowers have no "tail.") And where it came from I've no idea. All I can figure is that I dropped some seeds there on my many trips from the post office (seed exchanges)! I wonder what its chances are if I move it when we do the new deck?
These are two chestnut trees I started from seed from my mother's tree. They are on the edge of the garden for now, but I plan to move them next year. They are on their second (or is it third?) year and I'm very proud of them. I wonder how fast these things grow.
I've been bragging about my strawberries to my mother so here's the picture, Mom! LOL Strawberries are very behind this year, but this is the best they've ever been. I picked five or six big ones last night and they were the first ones for the year.
I tried to get a picture of the masses of berries. These ones are small but you can see there are five or six on each stem. The problem I've been having is that some of the berries are so big they are hitting the ground and slugs and sowbugs are getting at them. Bet you feel really sorry for me, don't you, Mom?! LOL
Okay, that's it for today! Have a great gardening month!
