official garda patches
jumper patch

This patch used to be sewn onto the front
pocket of Garda Jumpers. It is no longer
used and now the word "GARDA" is printed
or embroidered onto jumpers. The patch was made
with a  black and a blue background.

specialist unit patches

Patches are not a standard  part of the Garda Uniform. There are four sets of patches worn today by Garda Units, they are the Air Support Unit, Mounted Unit, Dog Unit and Water Unit. They are not worn commonly and would not be seen very often. Units such as the Dog and Mounted Units wear a uniform similar to the standard Garda uniform most of the time. I have only ever seen the Dog Unit patch worn once, I have never seen any other patch worn.

As of 13/01/2004 Things are looking up!!!! The IPA have managed to get access to the Air Support, and Water Unit patches so I can get a small amount! They have also got some of the Ireland Flag UN patches. See my trade list.
emergency response unit patch
Garda SWAT/Elite armed unit. This patch is no longer worn.
flourescent jacket patches

There are plastic patches on the Flourescent jackets. There is a small one on the front breast of the jacket and a large one on the back. There is a strip of Garda flourescent patch on the bottom of the jacket.
UN patches

There are Garda patches worn while on UN service. The below patches are worn by Gardai working abroad on UN duties. It is the only time I have seen Gardai use the word POLICE on their uniforms. These patches are also pretty difficult to come by.
