New York Times bestselling author R. A. Salvatores' Cleric Quintet novels, now in a trade paperback collector's edition

R.A. Salvatore's The Cleric Quintet Collector's Edition tells the tale of the scholar-priest Cadderly, who is plucked from the halls of the Edificant Library to fulfill a heroic quest across the land of Faerūn. This one-volume collection includes all five of the original novels, complete and unabridged, with a new introduction by the author.

The Cleric Quintet is a Forgotten Realms series by R.A. Salvatore that doesn't include Drizzt Do'Urden. The introduction in this collection like all of the other collections released by Wizards of the Coast adds alot of insight into Salvatore's writing. Danica the monk was greatly inspired by Salvatore's days as a bouncer. I found this series to be pretty mediocre. It starts off well with a great setting but the pace of the series slows down incredibly in some parts of the series. Salvatore states his desire for quintet spawned from other quintets like David Eddings the Belgariad series. However if it my opinion that this was a bad idea. Sure each novel had a antagonist of some sort and a satisfying conclusion but with some editing I think this could of been condensed into a more interesting trilogy. As for character development, throughout the series you don't get very much from the side characters, however Cadderly the Scribe develops very well from a meek support character into a leader that all the fighters can look to and respect. I also like how Dorigen developed from a evil villain to a motherly figure.

In conclusion, I recommend this novel to anyone that's a fan of R.A. Salvatore's works. Admittedly it isn't among the best of his writing but it does have a certain charm to it thanks in no small part to the wonderfull doo-dad Pikel. With the new pricing for the collection, 5 books for 19.99, it is definately worth looking into.
