| Magneto -- the X-Men's arch enemy and mankind's greatest foe -- has dramatically raised the stakes in the life and death struggle to find a cure for the mutant-killing Legacy Virus. Magneto has created a vast arsenal of Legacy Virus bombs that he's having his cohorts plant around the world. When he detonates the bombs, all of humanity will be quickly infected and soon die unless they receive the cure -- a cure that only he has! The X-Men must stop Magneto before he can activate his insane plan. But when it comes to Magneto, the acknowledged legitimate ruler of the island nation Genosha, stopping him will not only be difficult...it may be impossible! Meanwhile, Sebastian Shaw, the Black King of the Hellfire Club and an embittered, now cast-aside pawn in Magneto's mad scheme, is forming a terrible plan of revenge. |

I was pretty excited about reading this book since the second novel in the trilogy turned out pretty well. This novels is a bit different from the previous novel in terms of pacing and action but I still enjoyed it a great deal. Magneto who comes upon the cure for the Legacy Virus plans on infecting the entire world with the deadly disease with the help of the powerful Hellfire Club. He will then force people to submit to his ideology to recieve the cure. After dealing with a possible future where Selene did pretty much the same thing but on a smaller scale, the X-Men set out to stop his plan. They split into two groups as they go after both Magneto and Sebastian Shaw. The group that goes to Genosha find themselves getting overwhelmed by Magneto's forces and end up splitting apart and hiding in the country. I really liked the Genosha section of the book as it dealt with the racial hatreds between the two groups from the highly aggresive to the innocent bystander who gets caught up in the fight in their desire to just survive. It was also interesting to see how alot of the mutates viewed Magneto as their savior and worship him as a deity when the truth was that he was more a despot scarred by his experiences in the Nazi war camps. Well the two groups eventually meet up in Genosha and managed to destroy the cure to the Legacy Virus which prove to be ineffective as the disease would relapse in the test mutates. We find out later that Sebastian Shaw masterminded the whole event. He doctored the virus given to Magneto in order to keep it out of the hands of the madman. Shaw managed to keep a pure sample for himself and ends up the overall winner at the end of this series. In conclusion, I definately recommend this novel to any fan of the X-Universe. For those who haven't read the first 2 novel in this trilogy they can still enjoy this novel as it stands by itself very well.
