From America's premier fantasy writer---#1 New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of Crossroads of Twilight---comes an expanded version of his novella "New Spring," first published in the Legends collection. For three days battle has raged in the snow around the great city of Tar Valon. In the city, a Foretelling of the future is uttered. On the slopes of Dragonmount, the immense mountain that looms over the city, is born an infant prophesied to change the world. That child must be found before the forces of the Shadow have an opportunity to kill him. Moiraine Damodred, a young Accepted soon to be raised to Aes Sedai, and Lan Mandragoran, a soldier fighting in the battle, are set on paths that will bind their lives together. But those paths are filled with complications and dangers, for Moiraine, of the Royal House of Cairhien, whose king has just died, and Lan, considered the uncrowned king of a nation long dead, find their lives threatened by the plots of those seeking power. "New Spring" related some of these events, in compressed form; New Spring: The Novel tells the whole story. |

Being a huge Robert Jordan fan I immediately preordered this book the moment I heard about it. Unfortunately, being a huge Robert Jordan fan I had also bought Legends anthology which contains the New Spring short story which comprises half of this novel. I am proud to say I won most of Jordan's Wheel of Time series in Hardcover form. Much to my dismay when I recieved this book to discover that the Hardcover version of this book is less than half the size of any of his other works of which only half was new material. I was expecting a really interesting novel, imagine my surprise when I finished all the new content within a few hours all of which focuses on Moraine. Don't let the introduction with Lan fool you, Lan doesn't show up again till the rehash second half of this book. The story covers Moraine finding out the dragon has been reborn, Moraine being raised to the shawl, Moraine writing down a list of possible candidates for the dragon. In conclusion, while short this is still an interesting read that expands on a little of what's been told in Jordan's main story arc. However I don't recommend buying this unless you can find a really cheap deal on it. If you own the Legends anthology with the second half of the novel I suggest waiting for the paperback edition to be released.
