The world of Krynn is caught in the grips of a terrible war between the minions of Takhisis, Queen of Darkness, and the followers of Paladine and the gods of good. Dragons, both foul and fair, clash in the skies, and a small band of friends who will one day be known as the Heroes of the Lance, strive for freedom and honor. The story of this mighty conflict was revealed in the internationally acclaimed Dragonlance Chronicles trilogy, and now many of the most famous scribes of the series return to tell other tales of Krynn's War Years. Not much in the way of heroes. |

I recently started to reread the DragonLance novels in my collection chronologically. The War of the Lance is an anthology based on the War of the Lance period in the made Chronicles trilogy. Like most DragonLance anthologies, alot of the stories in here are absolutely forgettable. There were however two interesting stories of note. The first being the Vingaard Campaign. It's a retelling of how Laurana the Golden General defeated a large chunk of the Evil Dragon Army. The best part of this story was in the telling. It was told in a series of reports written by a scribe of Palanthus to Astinus as he surveyed each battle scene and got first hand reports. The campaign itself was a bit silly. Wow Laurana is such a great general, who would of figured to use ice dragons to freeze stuff and fire dragons to burn stuff besides people. Well obviously not the Evil Dragon Highlords since they never used it once in the war. The other story was is the story Tasslehoff promised never to tell. It shows how the dragonlance themselves might not be all that the strength of the lances themselves might of just been the belief of it's wielders as to the magic of the lance. In conclusion, I recommend borrowing this book from a friend or the library. It really isn't worth the price to buy an anthology for one or two good stories considering all the chaff you need to get through.
