| The pictures below are of Lancaster Castle. King John is said to have held court at Lancaster Castle. The main gateway is thought to date from 1405. There have been many famous trials and executions at the castle. You can visit an old thick walled, dank dungeon cell which is part of the old prison. There still exist old implements of torture and branding irons. Court is still held at the castle and part of it serves as a modern prison. |
