ARTIST: Sarah McLachlan
ALBUM TITLE:
Mirrorball
RATING:
Excellent

Some say a song is not merely its melody and words, but its life - the way it is delivered, performed, created in its complexity.

A McLachlan melody is no better proof of this statement, and as far as "Mirrorball" is concerned, Sarah McLachlan has masterfully translated the studio recordings into a truly breathtaking tapestry of delicate piano-lined ballads, smooth acoustic ditties and driving Lilithian emotion.

From "Ice Cream" to "Hold On," "Sweet Surrender" to "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy," McLachlan delivers heart-felt lyrics in a gutsy, world-weary way. It wins the listener over easily, and translates into a truly memorable hour or so of music that should not be left unheard. "Mirrorball" is undeniably a fine addition to the growing McLachlan discography, and is an excellent reason to keep coming back to her for more.

ADDENDUM: You'll notice that it's actually a picture of Wilson Phillips' "Shadows and Light" up there instead of the Sarah McLachlan album cover.  Well, I haven't scanned the "Mirrorball" album cover yet and I kinda thought that "Shadows and Light" looks pretty.  So sue me.
