ARTIST: Jennifer Lopez
ALBUM TITLE:
On The 6
RATING:
Average

Like fellow pseudo-Latina Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez seems to be developing a knack for knowing what the public wants of her. To say she's milking the cow for what it's worth would be nothing short of understatement.

As it is, though, "On the 6" is a rather confusing amalgam of fat bass beats, furious Latin piano lines and near-nauseating lyrics.

Which is not to say the album is bad. Tracks like the No. 1 stunner, "If You Had My Love," the Top 10 hit "Waiting For Tonight," the Big Pun-embellished "Feelin' So Good" and the red-hot Latin stomper "Let's Get Loud" are guaranteed to get listeners onto the dance floor to shake along with Lopez's patented and insured buttocks.

But for every decent potential house smash, you also have an incredibly bad downer, and "On the 6" has its own share of brain-numbing tracks. Overall, though, I'm left hoping Miss Lopez need not catch the subway and simply grab a flight to the next Album City, with better producers and a hand holding a pen and not a willing butt cheek.

ADDENDUM: You'll notice that it's actually a picture of Wilson Phillips' "Shadows and Light" up there instead of the Jennifer Lopez album cover.  Well, I haven't scanned the "On The 6" album cover yet and I kinda thought that "Shadows and Light" looks pretty.  So sue me.
