There are thousands of newsgroups on every subject imaginable.Each newsgroup discusses a particular topic such as jobs offered, puzzles or medicine.

NEWSGROUPS NAMES

The name of a newsgroup describes the type of information discussed in the newsgroup.A newsgroup name consists of two or more words, separated by periods(.)The 1st word describes the main topic.Each of the following words narrows the topic.

ARTICLES

"A newsgroup can contain hundreds or thousands of articles"

An article is a message an individual posts or sends to a newsgroup.An article can be a few lines of text or the length of a book.

A threadis an article and all replies to the article
.A thread may include an initial question and the response from other readers.
Newsreaders-
"A newsreader is a program that lets you read and post articles to newsgroups"

Kill files--
"Most newsreadeers allow you to enter the name of a person into a file called a kill file.This tells the newreader to automatically delete any articles posted by that person.Kill files are useful when someone is frequently posting inappropriate articles to a newsgroup."

Filters--
"Some newsgroups receive over a 1000 articles in one day.Some newsreaders provide filters that allow you to display only the type of articles you want to read.This lets you find the information you need without having to read every article in the newsgroup."
