There are two ways in which you can connect to the Internet
It is common connection via a modem and regular telephone lines.Among the advantage of dial up connection are..it is less expensive. It requires very modest hardwares and software resources.Among the disadvantages....slow speed, low reliability. Here regular telephone lines are used that may be very busy during peak hours hence, slowing the connection process.Telephone lines are not very reliable.A little disturbance may break the connection to the internet. In such case the user will have to dial again.
This option provides full internet access by dedicating a leased phone line between your network(or individual PC) and all internet service provider(VSNL or Satyam online...)
This connection is very expensive and difficult to set-up and manage. Therefore only organizations are the best suited to take advantage of this solution. It cost 150,000(1$=45 rupees approximately) rupees a year in India.
Among the advantages it include ..fast speed ,better reliability..and also with direct connection, you can have many users of your LAN connected to the internet through a single leased line. You do not need a modem on each individual computer that are connect to your LAN.This means that you do not have to dial to connect to Internet. The computer on Your desktop is always connected to the Internet.
You can be a provider of information not just a user.If your network is connected directly , you can make iformation about your organization available to anyone on the internet, which is not possible in case of a dial-up connection. If you have a dial-up connection you can only access the information already there on the internet.
Among the disadvantages include...Cost of connection is too high. Also a dedicated connection is more complex and difficult ot maintain.
