Some of the better known places. |

The image that you 'clicked-on' to get here is one of the better known "tourist" sights in the US. Half Dome in Yosemity National Park has been photographed, painted, and just remembered by visitors from all over the world. I'm not sure how many versions of this scene I've seen. There's nothing special about this one, except that it brings back memories of our trip in 1972 - October - cool days and cold nights. The summer crowds had long since departed - no more than four vehicles in the campground by the creek. |

Arrastra: A primitive mill using a circular path of cobblestones with retaining walls on either side. Heavy drag stones were drug over the mixture of ore and mercury using a horse, water wheel, or steam for power. As the ore was crushed the free gold was amalgamated. The amalgam was dug from between the cobblestones.
It's in JTNP (was JTNM) |

Cholla (Jumping) cactus - a prime crop. The points of the spines are shaped like fish-hooks - once they dig in, they don't want to let go. |
