The Moose

The Moose, the greatest steelhead fisherman in Oshawa, Ontario.  Youll usually find this creature along side the Oshawa Creek or Ganaraska River throughout the fall and spring.  And at 63 and 300 lbs, you cant miss him.

This guy is, by far, the most productive fisherman on our fishing trips.  He always out fishes the rest of us, and any other steelhead angler around.

The pie graph shown below is unfortunately a good representation of the groups success.

He comes from big family of expert fishermen and hunters.  Even his sister, my wife, has an incredible natural talent.  My wife has out fished me numerous times when Ive taking her out fishing at the Upper Credit or Upper Grand.

One October afternoon, I brought wife and my daughter along on a quick trip to the Oshawa creek for some heavy hitting Chinook action.  So there we are, me in my waders and 106 float rod, and my wife with my crappy little bass fishing rod and her bare feet with her pants rolled up.  And, of course, after a couple hours of me not getting any salmon to bite, my wife hooks into this huge male.  What a fight!!  This fish takes my wife up and down the river, dragging her 6 lb test line over rocks around trees.  We couldnt believe she didnt lose that fish.  My wife, with her adrenaline pumping, frantically waded up and down the riverbed in the cold water in her bare feet, chasing the monster.  Finally after half an hour she landed the beast.  It was 35 to 40 lbs !!!!!!  Bigger than any salmon Ive ever caught.  It was nearly as long as my wife was.  But this story has a tragic ending, the camera we used to snap the photograph did not have its film loaded correctlybut we have three eyewitnesses.
