An Ode to the Phoenix

Out of the ashes there arose,

A great and magnificent bird.

He would live 500 years or more,

But, not once in this time,

Will his voice be heard,

When the time comes and he knows,

The ending is nigh,

He’ll build a nest in a thorn tree,

This woven resting-place,

His funeral pyre will be.

With the coming of a new dawn,

He will stand proud and tall,

From his innermost soul he’ll sing,

An unforgettable song,

Of exaltation and pure joy,

And the world will still to listen.

As the last note fades away,

There will fall a silence serene,

The Phoenix will be,

Engulfed, in a fiery blaze,

The people of the earth will weep,

Their hearts ache, for he is no more,

His soul will wing its way to the heavens,

There he will dwell, beloved of the gods,

He will live in peace, his song no longer stilled,

For it will be forever heard,

With joy, in his new abode.

Here this, for the legend says,

We will not be bereft,

That from out of the father’s ashes,

A strong, young Phoenix will emerge,

He brings the world this message,

The cycle of life, is renewed,

The proof is all existence,

For the Phoenix resides, within,

To all of us, child, woman and man,

He speaks of the mystery that is the human race,

Their, ability to overcome,

The adversities and afflictions of life,

That threatens to overwhelm.

Somewhere, somehow,

Often in our darkest hours,

We hear, that one, superlative song,

It gives us strength,

And the will, to, continue on.

The Gods have blessed this world you see,

The Phoenix awakens, he stretches his wings,

Takes to the air, when hopelessness reigns,

For the Phoenix, is the bird of augury,

An auspicious omen, of peace and hope.

Listen well to the essence of this myth,

For within, you will find some truth,

If you should be blessed,

And live to hear,

The song of this new born one,

You will know, you too can rise,

Above the pain of death and loss,

As our Phoenix does.

These words of mine, began,

When my life, seemingly fell apart,

It took one sad and lonely night,

To open my distraught, and anguished mind,

To the sound of the euphony,

Which began as a gentle rhythmic chant,

Slowly, it chipped away the ice, around my heart,

Freeing body and unveiling the soul,

It, was the Phoenix song...

 "Out of the Ashes" -

Was born.
