The 3rd Annual David Guillot Charity Golf Classic was held Saturday at the magnificent Robert Trent Jones Golf Facility in Prattville, Alabama, just north of Montgomery. With a spectacular day of unusually mild weather for August, the tournament was a great success and everyone had a terrific
time. Played on the flagship course at Capitol Hill, "The Judge" was every bit as challenging and enjoyable as one would hope from a golf course of this caliber. It was only fitting that mother nature offered us perfect weather for a splendid day of golf, camaraderie, and fun. Totaling golf proceeds, individual donations, and additional donations pledged, we will raise well over $4000 for David and Sherry Guillot's benefit through Pi Kappa Phi. I would like to take this opportunity to recognize and thank our individual contributors who made donations despite not playing in the golf outing. These kind folks are Leslie Friedkin, Mike Cottrell, Dr. Bill Paull, Steve Morris, June Tyler, Janice Cox, and Phillip Arvin. Thanks to all of you for your generosity and willingness to help David's cause.
The David Guillot Charity Golf Classic is a best ball scramble with 4 member teams each playing the best shot of the group. This year, we had a total of 9 groups totaling 34 players with many golfers returning from last year to participate and help support this very worthy cause. The day was
highlighted with some fantastic golf played by several individuals and groups. The two longest drive holes were won by Todd Norman who hit a 280 yard shot on #1, and a 295 yard blast on #10. Congratulations Todd, you monster . The closest to the pin was won by Mace Kirkland on #3, getting
within 5 feet, and Scott Davis who hit his shot to within 12 feet of a very difficult and watery pin on #16...he beat me by seven feet. Congratulations Scott!
With only Chuck Newby in attendance from last year's soggy winning foursome, a new team was destined to be crowned champions in 2004. The winning group certainly did not disappoint by shooting 14 under par for a net total of 50.5. A great big congratulations goes out to the winning team
of Mark Warren, Scott Davis, Phil Meredeth, and Mace Kirkland. Congratulations gentlemen, and good luck next year in defending your title.
The David Guillot Charity Golf Classic would not be possible without the help and support of many people. I would first and foremost like to thank Rusty Taylor for all of his help in organizing and promoting the tournament. I would also like to thank all of my fellow Pi Kappa Phi brothers, most notably big brother Larry Turrin, Chuck Norris, and the rest of the Executive Council for all of their support and administrative assistance. I also want to extend a special thank you to Jennifer Middleton, Scott Neal, and all of the staff at Capitol Hill for being so supportive in helping us meet our financial goals and for maximizing our golfing experience. Additional thanks goes out to our hole sponsors,
Merchant Services Incorporated for sponsoring the closest to the pin on #16, and to "anonymous" for sponsoring the long drive on #1. The anonymous sponsor would like to say a special thank you to Max Guillot, David's son, and Lisa for making all of this possible. I want to personally thank Robert
and Willela Guillot, David's parents for coming out for the festivities, and to David's sister Suzann, and all of the Merion clan for joining in as well. Rick Hanson deserves to be recognized as well for his generous donation and for coming out again to support the Guillot Golf Classic for the second year. Last but not least, I want to thank my brother Terry for traveling with me from Atlanta and for being the unofficial photographer for the day. Finally, a great big thank you to my best buddy Bill Adams of
Adams and Associates for donating the koozies for everyone's enjoyment and beverage temperature control.
The David Guillot Charity Golf Classic is truly about bringing people together and keeping David's gregarious spirit alive through our actions on and off the golf course. Although we hoped for a larger turnout, we are more determined than ever to continue with our efforts and make the The 4th
Annual David Guillot Charity Golf Classic in 2005 the biggest and best yet. For those that could not attend or would like to play, please make every effort to come out and participate next year at one of the greatest golf courses and facilities in the United States, the legendary Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. We will be planning for the 4th David Guillot Charity Golf Classic very soon and will let everyone know when we have a date set. I hope to see everyone in Prattville in 2005. Thanks again to everyone who contributed to make the 3rd Annual The David Guillot Charity
Golf Classic a success.
Best Wishes...TIM
