Dehesa Electric

Album review:

Dehesa Electric’s sophomore album No Bluff is truly a work of art.  Russell Schultz and Adam Joyce seem to have matured on this album with songs like Drive and Seaward, yet have also managed to create a relaxed fun feel in the album with songs like Fleas.  No Bluff takes you on a trip from the hard grinding guitar rips and metal sounds of Inject to the acoustic sounds of Fleas.  No Bluff is an amazing musical journey that you shouldn’t miss.

Drive:

The blending of Joyce and Schultz’s vocals on the track Drive brings about a melodic feel that implores you to sing along.  This track has not only amazing vocals and lyrics but also a rhythmic music line that keeps you moving along.  With Joyce and Schultz’s voices together it gives birth to a new feel for Dehesa Electric.  While Drive is a more mellow change for Dehesa Electric, they do it well.

Feel:

Suggestive of early Ozzy Osbourne tracks, Dehesa Electric’s Feel has that slow throbbing metalness to it that I thought only Ozzy could do well.  Schultz’s lyrics are slow but forceful in this track to blend well with the heavy, but almost background guitar.  Feel is a track that would make any true lover of metal proud, even Ozzy.

I will do the ones from your other album next, but it was so easy to write these because I am so into this CD!  I really really love it!  I think Drive is my favorite, but I really like Feel too.  But then again, I really like seaward too!  All of them are great!  I love how you put the dogs barking in there, and how in Fleas you can hear you laughing and just having a good time…….I love songs like that!   Its so cool!!!!!
DRIVE:  These guys can Drive me anywhere they want!  Dehesa Electric has produced an upbeat happy sound that there is just not enough of in the music world today.  The thoughtful lyrics make you stop and think.  We all need to ‘slow down’ and enjoy life more.  This song is a great start.

FLEAS:  What fun!  Sit back in your rocker, hound dog at your side, stoke the fire and tap your feet.  Dehesa Electric loving what they do and sharing it with all of us.  Fleas is a mellow feel-good song.  Just kick-back and enjoy.

SEAWARD:  I love this sound:  Calypso meets African Safari.  Seaward has a brisk beat charged with energy.  It is just the right combination – sort of a controlled wildness.  Close your eyes and drift away.

INJECT:  Dehesa Electric has presented us with a heavy dark rock song just like the good old days.  Inject is well produced with strong guitar and hard-hitting vocals.  Schultz and Joyce leave us begging for more.
Hey Brother

While the impenetrable guitar riffs of Hey Brother by Dehesa Electric are as metal as it comes, it has certainly not been done before.  Not only are the unique guitar solos noteworthy but the song writing of Russ Schultz and Adam Joyce is memorable as well.  In addition to the lyrics being strong, the voices are penetrating with heavy metal vocals, especially in the opening lines.  Hey Brother has a definite metal quality to it without being over done.  In a genre of music that has so many clones and so few originators, Hey Brother from Dehesa Electric is a refreshing breath of air.
Reminiscent of such classic bands as Black Sabbath, Ted Nugent and Cracker, Perfect World by Dehesha Electric has an older classic rock feel to it.  Ever the guitar band, Russ Schultz and Adam Joyce have once again created another impassioned track.  The stormy lyrics by Schultz are outdone only by the echoing guitar solos of Joyce.  Perfect World is exactly that……….perfect.
