Welcome back from Thanksgiving break everyone. Today marks the last event for the quarter in gamma beta phi.
Thanks to those who made it to our food drive event during such a busy time in the quarter. For those who did not, today's card making potluck is sure to be a great way to get caught up in hours for the quarter. All hours will be updated on the website over winter break. Also the Facebook GBP group is underway and will be sending invites out to our members in the coming weeks.
Otherwise have a Merry Christmas and don't let finals drag down your mood.

Welcome to all new members of Gamma Beta Phi
I had fun getting to meet and greet all our new members during last weeks induction ceremony. It looks like we have a very lively and diverse group coming into the Gamma Beta Phi fold this year! Work hard and make our graduating members proud. Now I'll turn it over to Hien for Saturday's Spring Splash event, our biggest and best event of the year.
Spring Splash is this Sat. May 7th from 11-5pm.
Please email me if you can make it to the event and the times that you are able to stay.
([email protected])
*This is our last event of the year so if you still need service hours this is your last chance to get it before the year ends.
Remember you need a total of 15 hours (8 of which has to be with GBP) to be considered an active member.
Although our check in time will be at 8:30am so you will be able to earn all 8 GBP hours at this event if needed. Please keep track of your hours in case of any discrepancies between what we have and record and what you believe you have.
*This is very important for seniors!! If you are not an active member you will not be able to purchase your cords and stoles with the group.
This is an awesome and extremely fun volunteer event so please come out and enjoy the last bash of the school year!! :]
Thanks guys!
Hien

Welcome back Gamma Beata Phi!
Thanks to everyone who showed up to support our annual project to help keep Riverside looking beautiful. All participants will have their hours updated by the end of the week.
Speaking of updated hours, we will be running yet another community service event this coming Saturday the 19th. This event will be our tree planting service event, truly one of the most fun and unique community service activities available to our members. Come out for the fun, excitement, free food, and answer to the question of how 'many honors kids does it take to plant a tree?'
Senior Gamma Beta Phi members! We are now selling our society's graduation tassels. Please speak to Jimmy Lau for more information on pricing and payment.

Woo! Winter Quarter is coming to a close!
Hey Gamma Beta Phi! The treacherous winter quarter is finally coming to a close and Gamma Beta Phi is rearing up to take on our many spring community service projects. Of particular note next Saturday (the 8th) we will be holding our tree planting service, one of our most unique and entertaining community projects of all. Please join us in Lot 1 at UCR on Saturday morning at 8am to join our carpool to the service destination. Free shirts and food will be provided and a good time will be had by all.
In other news for those of you that missed our last meeting, we held a very fun ice breaker involved guessing what celebrity was written on our back in a 20 questions style game. Haha not too many winners but we did come to realize that celebrities are all pretty much the same. Except Alan the amazing Sponge Bob.
I'll be updating the website shortly after the next officer meeting to provide dates and times of the upcoming spring community service projects. Until then check out the updated service hours and hike to the C pictures I will be updating shortly.
February 23, 2008
Sorry for lack of updates recently
My school work load has been intense and as such I've been extremely short on time to take care of extracurricular activities such as this. However, the website will be updated by the end of this week with the hike to the C pictures and updated members hours.
On another note, this weeks meeting will feature a cake baking program for a few community service hours. Please arrive at the normally scheduled area and we will walk to the dorm where this will be taking place. Bring your appetites as their may be left overs!
February 8, 2008
Quick Update

This quarter is your last chance to fulfill your requirements with GBP!! Please take at a look at the events below and try to attend if you still need the hours. Community service is extremely important to our Gamma Beta Phi Society therefore if you do not complete the 15 hours total we will have to inactivate your membership in June.
Spring splash will be on Sat. May 19th from 11-6pm. This is the last big event to get hours with GBP for the quarter. There are time slots in which members can sign up for, just email us with the time you are able to help out (this applies only to members who were not able to attend tonights meeting and couldn't sign the sheet).
Our theme this year is literature so we will also be accepting children's books to donate to a library in Africa for volunteer hours. We will accept up to 2 hours.
Attention GBP:
Our induction ceremony will be next Tues. May 15th at Sterling from 6-9pm. Members can come an hour early (at 5) to help set up or/and an hour after (till 10) to help clean up. Our first service event is the Citrus Tasting Booth on April 21, 2007. If you are interested please email Mary Darnell ([email protected]) with the times you'd like to help out at the event and that you are with Gamma Beta Phi. To get credit for the event from GBP, please print out a service form from our website, and have someone in charge from the festival fill it out and turn it in either at the next meeting or in our mailbox. This will count toward your GBP hours even if you do not do it with the group.
We are recruiting new members so if you know anyone with a cumulative GPAs of 3.5 or higher, please invite them to our next meeting. Thanks guys!
Attention GBP:
As a reminder to those of you who have not begun to do your 8 hours with the group yet, please be sure to keep track to your hours and make sure you will be able to complete the requirements by the end of the year. Although its possible to do all 8 hours with the group we cannot guarantee that you can complete it within a single quarter, since the requirement is for the whole year. Thank you to all of you who were able to make it to the meeting tonight. We have many things planned this quarter therefore attending the meetings is essential to get the full information.
Attention GBP:
OFFICER ELECTIONS: This year we would like to hold electronic officer elections. Those of you who will remain at UCR next year should really consider running for office. Its a chance to show leadership skills and is a major plus on any application, whether you plan to apply for professional school, a job, or internship. Many employers and schools are looking at more than just membership. They like to see how involved you are within your club, therefore this is a great opportunity to show them just that. Here is how the electronic elections will work:
1) If you are interested, please send a small paragraph stating your name, major, status, a summary about yourself and why you would like to be an officer and also a small photo of yourself.
2) Your summary will be posted on our website where every member is required to read each of it and email their vote to GBP.
3) We will tally the votes and announce the results at the next meeting.
Induction ceremony: The Induction Ceremony will be tentatively held on February 28th. We are trying hard get the price to be within 30-35 dollars per person. We hope all of you can make it. Its the only event throughout the year where we formally induct new members and officers. It is a very honorable achievement and you all should be proud to share the moment with your friends and family, therefore we highly encourage you to bring any guests with you.
KEEP RIVERSIDE CLEAN AND BEAUTIFUL: We have a service opportunity on Feb. 3. from 8-12. The final location has not been decided on yet, but we will let you know as soon as we receive the information. Carpool is provided. If you have not signed up for it yet and would like to come please email us and let us know.
ALL MEETINGS ARE MANDATORY WINTER QUARTER. IF YOU HAVE CLASS CONFLICT OR SOMETHING OF EQUAL IMPORTANCE YOU MUST PROVIDE VALID DOCUMENTATION. CONTINUED ABSENCE FROM THE MEETINGS WILL RESULT IN DISMISSAL FROM THE CLUB!
Attention GBP:
I have just updated your service hours for the fall quarter. Please check and make sure I've inputed everything correctly. If there are any errors please email me and let me know.
Remember GBP, you need 15 hours of community service in order to stay as an active member, 8 of which has to be with the club. Although we do provide service opportunities, we do not guarantee that you will meet all 15 hours with just the service events we offer. Therefore you must keep track of your hours and volunteer on your own if necessary.
SENIORS: You must meet the requirements in order to purchase chords and stoles.
Meeting: November 8, 2006
