"say hi, ned" "hi, ned"--is a reference to the "Burns and Allen Show", where at the end, George Burns would say to Gracie Allen, "Say goodnight, Gracie" and she replied, "Goodnight, Gracie".

  • log ride--you and all of your friends sit in a plastic model of a hollowed out log which rides a track through water really fast. Thus you and your friend scream and get wet and pay $40 to do so. Oh, sorry, I forgot to say it was an amusement ride, didn't I?

new Jesus & Pals look--is taken right out of talk show opening credits, with references to Johnny Carson and David Letterman, among others. (The slinging of the coat thing later is very much like a department store ad, but I'm not sure if it spefically is a rip-off of any show.)
  • Gilligan, Bob Denver-- I was wondering how long it would be before we got a Gilligan ref. A 70s television show, called "Gilligan's Island" was about a Hawaiin tour boat ride getting caught in a storm and washing ashore on an island inhabited by only natives. Gilligan is a the ship's first mate, often referred to as "little buddy" by the rotund and jolly Captain. Bob Denver, a very scrawny man, played Gilligan, and was dressed as you see him on J&P. Friends of mine refer to objects in terms of their mass in Gilligans. No shit.

  • Brady Bunch-- oh dear, 70s television show about a man and a woman who were once married to other people and had three...oh forget it, here's the theme song:

Here's the story, of a lovely lady, who was living with three very lovely girls.
All of them had hair of gold, like their mother, the youngest one in curls.
Here's the story, of a man named Brady, who was living with three boys of his own.
They were four men, living all together, yet they were all alone.
Till the one day when the lady met this fellow, and they knew that it was much
more than a hunch, that this group might somehow form a family. That's the way
we all became the Brady Bunch.

Somehow, I don't think 90s American would allow those lyrics to be sung on television today.
