Shaking the Baby (continued)

Schuyler:
But they said we shouldnt be alone!

Holden:
Im always alone. Besides, I need to be alone.

Schuyler starts to chase after him, but Darien stands up and stops her.

Darien:
Let him go.

Schuyler:
But he

Darien:
Skylet him go. I think itd be best if he spent some time alone to just think. Jenny was like his sister. I think he really wants to go.

Schuyler reluctantly nods. The camera pans over and zooms in slightly to observe Holden walking away. The narration from Darien continues.

Darien (offstage narration):
Holden went home at that time. We told him to come to my place a little later in the day. He never did.

The screen fades to black.

He had been walking home on the side of the road that day.  A drunk driver swerved and hit him. He died shortly after getting hit. Cameron had been that driver. Hes in jail now for vehicular manslaughter. Needless to say I have never forgiven him, and I dont plan on it. It was not a good day at all.

Camera fades into the next scene, which is Antony, Darien, and Schuyler are sitting in a room. Antony and Schuyler are sitting on a bed, while Darien is crouching and leaning back against the wall. Everyone looks shocked. It is silent for a while.

Antony:
How could this happen?

Schuyler:
I have no clue.

Darien near tears:
I hate him

Schuyler:
Dont say that

Darien:
How can I not? He just killed my best friend!

Everyone looks down at the ground. The silence is almost haunting. No one looks at each other. No one says anything. The camera pans over to the digital clock and zooms in on it. It reads 3:28. Without fading, the clock sort of morphs into 4:43. The camera pulls back and we see that no one has moved. All of them are still looking down, and no one says a word. Finally the silence is broken by a phone call. Everyone looks up at each other. After about three rings, Schuyler answers it.

Schuyler:
Brief pause, she takes a deep breath.  Hello?

The scene goes silent as Schuylers mouth drops open, and she covers her mouth with her hand. Dariens narration continues.

Darien (offstage narration):
You might be able to tell, but the news we got at that time was not good news. Turns out Jenny had been in a comma. It wasnt known if she would be in one for a long time or a short time. Hell, they didnt even know if she would be in a comma permanently or just temporarily. Jennys dad called us then to tell us her condition. That, along with the news about Holden, hit us pretty hard.
