Hes on Fire.again!
Oh dear lord, wasnt this franchise dead after Tournament Edition and College Slam? Youd think so, but here it is, another NBA Jam game. These games were always fun, yet it was always the cheap thrills kind of fun.
Id end up playing a few games and then shutting it off in boredom to go break a window or something. I knew deep down inside that it was the games fault, but I couldnt figure out why. Well in this early N64 effort, you have the ability to create your own characters.
Finally, my personal problems were solved. Game-play has also been tweaked as you now have the ability to execute double dunks and a variety of other moves. Midway, I forgive you, because I have NBA Hangtime.
| | NBA Hangtime | Graphics: 5 Youd expect more from an N64 game, even if it was first-generation. The graphics are pretty basic, but theyre adequate. I really dont have much else to say about it.they do look almost exactly like the arcade, which is nice. |
Playability: 7
With a few adjustments, this game is about as playable as they comeits the adjustment part that I have a problem with. The controls are default set on the c buttons. Who in their right mind would want to use the c buttons for basic controls? I dont know what Midway was thinking here, but Im guessing they werent thinking at all. Fortunately the controller pack will save the changed controls onto the controller it is in. Unfortunately, the three other controls need to be changed every time you reset the game. This gets extremely tedious and I just thought I had to vent my anger out on the review. Like I said earlier, besides this small problem, the playability is fine. |
Fun Factor: 7 This is what the original NBA Jam should have been and the single reason I refuse to play NBA Street for PS2. The game-play is silky smooth and the create a player addition is huge. I am twice as inclined to play the game when Im using my own created guy who I can improve with victories and trivia points. Multi-player is what makes this game a classic. The N64 has done it again as this game is a blast to play with one to three friends. I dont care what anybody else says, this is the greatest basketball videogame.ever. Basketball is miles behind other sports as far as video games go, but this basketball game is both fun and rewarding. |
