The first pictures of the game that were slowly leaked out to the awaiting public were of a masked ninja-like fellow,possibly same,with two other masked assilents,taking out three hapless guards.
This was strange I thought to myself,as Sam was ment to be a queit,mysterious bloke who worked alone.But more infomation was eventually gathered and we now know that Splinter Cell will be L.A.N. enabled.For those of you who don't know what that means,It means you and up to fifteen other comrades can take on the enemy.
Nintendo have done this with two other games,Mario Kart,and Kirbys air ride.These games were both of the racing genra,and pitted you against each other,but never has a L.A.N. capable game allowed you to team up.Don't get your hopes up though,as your mission,should you choose to accept It,Is to be kitted out with four T.V.s,sixteen controllers,four Gamecubes,and sixteen friends.This preview will self destruct in five seconds.Ohh sorry,wrong film.
Great weapons from the first installment (of the soon to be trillogy as I predict) return,as well as all new ones.The developers haven't gave away much yet but the scarcly used GBA link up will again be used,I hope for more than just a map.
If you were bored of the cramped in-door settings of the first game,and cried out for a breath of fresh,outdoor air,then your in luck.One of the earlier missions see's you,as Sam,trying to infiltrate a base,from a grassy enviroment.Sounds easy,but wait.Landmines litter the place,and flocks of birds hide in the grass,one wrong move and the birds take off,instantly giving your postion away.The grass Itself sways realisticly,and moves independently,thus a great new game engine Is formed,no doubt other games companys will steal.
This engine is based around great lighting effects.One mission requires you to jump on board a train,without being seen.So time It right and wait for the train lights to flicker on,because If It's light inside and dark outside,as the old saying goes,You can't see me,fool!But If stelth games steam up your night vision goggles,than sneak out and buy this,come early 2004.I know I will.Right,black skin-tight suit.Check.Sniper rifle.Check.
