But if you no nothing about this game,(which would be impossible as the developers wouldn't shut -up about it)you play as 'well ard' maverick cop,Nick Kang.In an epic branching storyline,you will have to do anything it takes to stop anything from drug dealers,to Chinese Triads taking over L.A.The storline is branching,meaning their are multiple routes to take.You'll have to complete them all to get a 100% rating.When you're life bar runs out,you don't die,you just take another route in the story,which is frustrating most of the time.Speaking of L.A,this is one of the downfalls of the game.Luxoflux the developers should get some majer credit.They went round the whole of 'The City Of Angels',and put it directly into the game.So every street sign and petrol station that is there in real life,will be in the game.This feature is totally pointles though,as you will probley not know the whole of L.A. like the back of you're hand,so you wouldn't care if you're driving down a real street,or a fake one.They could put a fake one in there and you probley wouldn't notice.Apart from the major landmarks and buildings in the game,the whole city looks the same any way.
A good feature that no-one talks about is the way the enviroment acts to you.Ok,it's no Red Faction,but you can drive through fences,knock over trees, bricks fall out of walls when you hit them etc.You're car has loads of ways to get damaged too.Smoke will seep out of you're engine,tires will fall off,and bonets will fly,unless you obey the laws and are a careful driver.Which you should be,as you are a police officer.You can kill a dozen people and no-one will come and arrest you.Thats one lie about this game being relalistic.
Another lie is the three 'brillient' forms of gameplay that has been incorperated into the game.Let me brake it down.Driving=great,all cars handel differently,and some real cars have been thrown in.Shooting=ok.Nothing reveloutionary,but you can shot while leaping through the ait in slo-mo,in a car,or in 1st person mode.Fighting=pants.Its a bit like Star Fox adventures,just wait for the perpitraitor to stop blocking,and perform a combo.Punch,kick,punch again,ki....snoar..
This is a great game though.It's not that different to G.T.A.It even improves on it in some aspects,and evens adds it's own.You couldn't do slo-mo dives or flying kicks in Vice City could you?There are great licences in True Crime.Snoop Dog on the soundtrack(and a playable character),Chris Walken as a voice over,and get this,Real phones,instead of fake 'Fokia' ones!The only let down here was the way the developers hyped up the game too much,so everyone was let-down.The game shouldn't be called 'True Crime Streets of L.A',it should be named 'mish-mash of mediocre game types thrown in and exacuted poorly streets of L.A.'Not as catchy,but at least it's not a bunch of hope building lies.
