Take Offs, Landings, and Carrier Landings
Take Off
- Line up on the end of runway

- Incrementally add some flaps if appropriate * most fighter you won't need flaps on land bases, there more than enough runway, but on Carrier take offs about 25% to 50% flaps is good*

- lock parking brake and advance throttle slowly to full power. ( to lessen Torque affect)

- Maintain back pressure on the stick to keep the tailwheel on the ground until your rudder becomes effective

- slowly ease forward on the stick so the tail rises (with the exception of the p 38, which has tricycle gear, keep that tail down!

- at your aircrafts take off speed (around 100 kts) pull back gently on the stick

- once airborne, retract the gear and flaps

Landing
- Slow plane down to its maximum gear extention speed

- lower gear and start a shallow 500 foot per minute decent toward the runway (Vertical Speed Indicator on instrument panal)

- incrementally add flaps to steepen the approach

- Maintain the approach speed recommened for your aircraft and use pitch to control airspeed, to speed up move stick slightly forward. To slow down, pull stick back

- Pick a touchdown point and use the throttle to control decent rate. If the touchdown appears to move down your windscreen, decrease power: your too high. if your touchdown point seems to move up: your too low.

- as you cross the end of the runway, ease the trottle back to idle

- "Flare" about 20 feet above the runway by pulling back on the stick, and touch down in a nose high "three point" attitude. All three wheels should contact the ground at the same time

-During and after the touchdown, maintain directional control with rudder

- Slow aircraft with the brakes to a stop
Carrier Landing

- Slow plane down to maximum gear extition speed

- Lower landing gear and extend tailhook

- Incrementally add flaps to steepen approach

- follow LSO *Landing Signal Officer* instructions to bring you in

- if cut signal is given, cut throttle and flare plane so tailhook catches the deck cable and stops you, if you miss the cable, full power and go around again

here is my carrier landing, almost text book, but speed was too fast and i bounced over the wires and had to go around
*tip* have canapy open incase you have to bail quickly!
