September 12, 2003 Review in Inquirer Libre: "Paano Ba Maging Isang Ina"
I am very proud of my review in Inquirer Libre by Cathy Yamsuan, which occupied 2/3 of the tabloid-size page and showed the cover prominently. It is in Filipino and describes my zero-pain advocacy at length. She cited the book section describing the uterus and other parts of the reproductive system (from Chapter 2) as very illuminating. She also says that the book is well worth its price.  She suggests that not only pregnant women read it but also women who are not pregnant and men, too. That was my intention. Thank you, Cathy!
EXCERPTS:

Anvil Publishes Lamaze Book by Anna Lacson

Natural childbirth can be painless. According to author and theater artist Gamay Arkoncel-Dacanay, this is an idea that most Filipinos have not yet fully grasped. She wrote her book, "Lamaze: Kung Paano Dapat Manganak ang Babae" ("Lamaze: How a Woman Should Give Birth") the first of its kind in the Philippines, in Filipino with this in mind.
"Childbirth is always a miracle," Dacanay said. "Therefore it is the stuff of legend and myth-and prejudice..."
Published by Anvil, the book begins with a history of the Lamaze method, and follows with detailed accounts of the author's own Lamaze classes. It also features stories from couples and doctors who have experienced the method.
Written in accessible language with illustrated exercises, Dacanay's self-help book will enable anyone to practice the method, refuting the general impression that it is expensive and meant for only a few.

ABS-CBN "Magandang Umaga Bayan" broadcast
I was featured in "Usapang Babae," a 2-minute segment of ABS-CBN's morning TV show, Magandang Umaga Bayan. It showed me instructing and coaching an ABS-CBN employee, Lou, also still photos of my Lamaze class and some labor photos. I was also shown talking about the importance of Lamaze to pregnant women and leafing through pages of the book.
As the hosts announced it as a method of giving painless natural childbirth, co-host Doris Bigornia, a veteran TV journalist, butted in, saying "Why haven't I heard of that before?"
The segment flashed my contact numbers in the end.  It was heartening to get text messages and calls immediately after. I also got inquiries from within and outside Manila: Laguna, Pangasinan, La Union, and as far as Cagayan de Oro in Mindanao.

May 2004 WomanToday Magazine (5 issues)
The magazine, for the whole month of May (Woman's Month), in its weekly issues serialized a chapter in my  book: "Ang Lamaze Exercises, Breathing at Pushing Technique at iba pa."  One of the rare times the magazine published an article (and a series, at that) in Filipino.
