The short story GALWAY FAIR was a concept that resulted from a variety of influences that have remained in my head for years. This was a narrative I have been meaning to put together for a very long time. However, I gradually lost focus and the entire proposal was bound to be disposed of and never worked on again. During this time a person who I grew up with died unexpectedly. Receiving the message that notified me of her passing immediately changed my mindset, knowing I would never see her again.
She left behind a daughter, whom I also had the pleasure of growing up with. Her life was plagued by a series of hearing problems until she became completely deaf. This real life mother-daughter story was inspiring. A week after her mother's death, I felt it was time to return and complete GALWAY FAIR. I had to rid myself of all my current interests for this to happen as I had become totally absent from the storytelling scene for quite some time. GALWAY FAIR centers around characters who have lost themselves in some way and want a resolution. This story is dedicated to such people.
GALWAY FAIR draws influence from real world names and locations. One fascination of mine has always been foreign lands which I really want to visit while making a fictitious world seem real in some way. When I first started GALWAY FAIR, the stories were written and distributed in different locations across the web. All four episodes can now be read from the same site. I hope more people will push the envelope for online storytelling. Now that the possibility of placing fiction online is available, I think I've made the long-awaited return just in time.
