| 1. | Getting ready for your moving day! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| You have found a neighborhood that you wish to exchange families with. Now you will need to get your Sims ready for the big move. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| When your neighborhood moves your exchange Sim out of the house to the family center all their possessions will be sold to give them simoleons for their trip. In order to make sure your neighborhood exchange committee saves their furnishings for the new Sim you are about to welcome into the community, your neighborhood commitee must do the following: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| They must visit your neighborhood storage facility which is located in the following location: Maxis/The Sims/Userdata/Houses. There they will find the house furnishings saved under the lot number for the home. Save the furnishings by copying this file to a secure location.. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| After you have completed this task, you may then move the happy traveler out of their home. The home will be empty at this point, but once safely in the neighborhood's family center, you may leave the neighborhood and restore the furnishings by copying the furnishings back to their original location. You will be asked if you want to replace the empty house with the saved furnished home, click yes and the home will be as it was before. Fully furnished and ready for your guests. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 2. | Moving Day | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The exchange family is now moved out of the home and ready to embark on a grand adventure. The house they moved out of is now outfitted with all the furnishings and ready for the exchange Sims from the other neighborhood. Your neighborhood's exchange Sim is now in the family center waiting for the big move. Sim City movers will find your Sim listed under your neighborhoods export folder. They will be found in: Maxis/The Sims/Userdata/Export Copy their file to a convenient location. Then they may travel as an attachment to a mode of transport called e-mail to their new neighborhood. Any specially made clothes or makeup needs to travel with them and can be found in: Maxis/The Sims/GameData/Skins. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 3. | The Arrival | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| When your neighborhood is ready to move in the new arrivals, just open the e-mail attachment containing the family and save to : Maxis /The Sims/Userdata/Import They will then appear in the family import center just like any other imported family. You can then import them into your neighborhood where they will appear as an unhoused family in the family center. From there you can move them into the exchange home. Before the move-in, any specialized make-up or clothes need to be added to: Maxis/The Sims/GameData/Skins where all such items are kept for your neighborhood. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| All the exchanged Sims have traveled by this method. However you may also by-pass part of step two if you are one of the neighborhoods able to use the official Maxis Sims Exchange. You can make your exchange without needing to find their export folder. The Maxis exchange can do all that work for you, if chose to use them as an intermediary. You may send the Sims to the exchange temporarily and notify the receiving neighborhood that they are ready to be received. They will arrive in the family import center as an unhoused family, and you can simply move them into the house where they will live during their time in the neighborhood. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Traveling between communities with different levels of expansion, or crossing the language barrier. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Sometimes it may be difficult to get thru customs when you are going from an greatly expanded neighborhood to a more old-fashioned neighborhood, or when traveling to different language communities. In this case, traveling to another sparsely populated neighborhood in your own community before you leave on your trip will unload a lot of baggage before you travel. You will more easily gain entrance into any community if you travel with less than 100k of baggage. Also remember that you should not travel with your pets if you are traveling to a neighborhood that does not allow pets. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
