Tips From the Simmerset Police Department
by Detective Jason Alexander Smith
1st Tip:  Sim homes are notoriously never locked.  Come on folks, lets start locking those doors and windows when we leave the house to go to work in the mornings!  I've driven by Sim homes many times only to see the door standing wide open after there is no one at home.
2nd Tip:  Install burglar alarms in your home if you have not already done so.  They provide instant access to the police department and an officer will respond immediately, even if you are sound asleep and unaware your home is being burglarized.   Burglars love a home that doesn't have an alarm system. Remember, an alarm needs to be installed at every door leading to the outside.  It is also very helpful to put some burglar alarms outside the home, too.  The sooner the police are called, the more chance the thief will be caught before your valuables are stolen. If the police arrive at your home after the thief is gone there is very little chance the stolen property will ever be recovered.  And the insurance company will not reimburse you for the  loss if the thief is not caught.
3rd Tip:  Have the emergency numbers by the phone.  In an emergency you don't have time to find the phone book to look up the  number. Make sure you have several phones in your home that are readily accessible if you need to call.  If you have been lax in installing those ever-important burglar alarms, getting to a phone to call the police may be your only option.  This usually only works if you have managed to spot the burglar as he steps onto your property.  We get many calls and it takes an officer awhile to get to your house.
4th Tip:  Stay calm if there is an emergency.  I have noticed that many Sims will panic when a fire starts and don't realize how important it is to stay calm and level-headed.  Also, don't be a hero, let the emergency response team handle the situation.  Many Sims die needlessly battling home fires with a fire extinguisher instead of calling the fire department.  Remember firemen are trained professionals.
5th Tip:  Be a good neighbor.  If you are having a party late at night, remember to keep the noise down so your neighbors can get some sleep!  Don't let the police make a special trip to your house to give you a fine when we can be doing more important business.  Most of all, look out for each other and we can have a happy and peaceful  community.
