MORE FROM BUN BOY...
Of course, Venice is only one of the world's attractons Las Vegas has recreated. In a mere few square miles, you can see pale immiatations of Italy, Paris, England, the Carribean, Egypt, and a few locations we're still trying to figure out.
Look at the flooding here! Vegas could sure learn a thing or two about drainage from Baker!
A ROOF OVER YOUR HEAD - AND FOUR WAILING WALLS!
Our intrepid band of visitors stayed at the Sahara, one of the older hotels at the far end of the Las Vegas strip. The neon-festooned exterior of the building also hosted a roller coaster, while inside was the Nascar Cafe. How's that for high style? But here's the clincher...You know you're staying at a world-class venue when it comes complete with a print of Mecca in your room.
A DIFFERENCE OF OPINION
Finally, I'm told that other people also have the right to express their opinions on the subeject of the Baker/Las Vegas comparison. Apparently there's something about a "first ammendment", or whatever they call it, and some "free speech" crap. I checked with the Mayor, and it looks like we have to honor the damn thing.

So here's cousin Dave's take on the situation, which will stay posted here while I get a petition going to put a stop to this whole namby-pamby free speech hold-my-hand-while-I-share-my -feelings bullshit. Next thing you now they'll want our guns!*
The editors of this page would like to make it known that the opinions expressed (and the language used to do so) by Bun Boy do not necessarily reflect those of the authors and hosting services of these pages...or anyone else for that matter.

We would like to take this opportunity to apologize to anyone who may be offended by Bun Boy's comments here, and his attitude in general. We believe it has something to do with a back injury caused from carrying a honking huge bun around all the time. It serves the snot-nosed little prick right!

Uh...Where were we, now?...

ON THE OTHER HAND...
While I enjoyed the beginning of Bun Boys review of Las Vegas, I believe Mr. Bun (Mr. Boy?) perhaps may have been a bit harsh in using terms such as pathetic to describe sites such as the Venetian. While I agree that Las Vegas falls short in any objective comparison with world-class venues such as Baker, its important to keep in mind that Las Vegas is not trying to compete with Baker. Theyve conceded that fight long ago.

Instead, Las Vegas compares itself to so-called destination cities such as Venice or Paris, and in these instances, its pretty clear that
Las Vegas has bested the originals. Take Venice for instance. The canals in Las Vegas do not have the floating dead animals or human waste that characterize the canals of Venice, and Las Vegas is not prone to the four-times-a-year flooding that bring those dead animals and human waste directly into the lower levels of the crumbling Venetian buildings. Perhaps the festivals honoring these events are entertaining over there, but most of us can live without the experience.

Similarly, the Las Vegas version of Paris has many of the amenities of that city (a nice tower, a lovely arch and tasty breakfast pastries), but has eliminated many of the drawbacks. Such as the French. Not to mention the mountains of dog shit that dominate the sidewalks of that far-off city. From what Ive read, the Las Vegas hotel had mimes at one time, but none were in evidence during my visit there. My guess is that they wisely eliminated them to prevent the anger and drunken violence that mimes can inspire because, after all, mimes suck.

In many ways, I regard Las Vegas as a warmer version of Epcot in that you get to sample the highlights of other cultures without actually having to go there or to deal with the local residents. Sure, they bring people who talk funny over to work the cash registers and wait on tables. But they have to go back after a year while we Americans get the smug satisfaction of knowing we get to stay in this magnificent nation and enjoy fine locales such as Las Vegas and, for the truly fortunate and worthy among us, Baker.
That's all! Take me back to the home page.
