Altered nylon stocking, a leg from a pair of stretch leggings, or a leg from a pair of tights.
Split open a single layer, trim to appropriate width, and roll up like a regular bandage; use to hold a bandage on a lower leg. Or, cut off the thigh portion of a queen-size stretch garment and use as a mask to hold a dressing over a facial wound or injured eye.  (Cut holes for ears and uninjured eye; slip dressing over muzzle, slip ears into the holes, and cut under the throatlatch to jpjrevent throttling.)
Comments/Drawbacks
Awkward but effective if no commercial stretch bandage is available.  The fabric's give in these garments varies from product to product, so no uniform recommendations can be given regarding how tightly to apply them.  Check bandage often for slippage and bunching, and change at least twice a day until proper materials can be obtained.
Polutice
For reducing inflammation, and for drawing out pus, swelling, and contamination from wounds.
Epsom salts (1/2 cup mixed with miller's (wheat) bran (4cups) and warm water (enough to make a manageable paste).
For drawing out infection from a sole abscess or coronary band injury.  Mix in a 1 or 2 gallon resealable plastic freeer bag, insert hoof into bag and pack poltice under/around hoof; Secure (bag and all) with padding, elastic bandage,  and duct tape, covering the whole foot.  Alternative: Pack beneath and arond hoof inside a plastic or rubber hoof boot.
Comments/Drawbacks
An effective drawing agent.  Some horses will eat the poultice, which carries a risk of loose stool and/or upset stomach from ingesting Epsom salts.
