Magnum was a rescue Doberman given to me by my parents. They rescued Magnum from a life of abuse at the hands of his former owners. At first I was concerned about taking in a dog with such a difficult past. As with most people who encounter a dog that has been severely abused, I was concerned that he might be aggressive towards humans (a natural response to being abused one would think) and other animals.
However, despite he terrible past life, Magnum flourished at Galaxy Kennels. He was never aggressive towards me but remained my faithful guardian and watchdog until he died. Magnum was also great with my Yorkies, never attempting to hurt any of them. He lived in the house with us and was a great companion.
I had to put Magnum down about a year ago, his life was shorted by his early years of abuse. It was a hard decision to make, but I finally realized that I had to do what was best for him. Magnum was buried in the field behind my house and several months later Cricket, one of my yorkies, joined him. I miss Magnum's presence and the sense of protection he gave me. Since his death, I have aquired four Malinois. While I love them a great deal, none of them have ever given the great sense of undivided loyalty that Magnum gave me.
Looking back over Magnum's life, I am glad that he was able to come live with me. I think that his years with me were happy and I am glad I was able to show him that people could love and care about him.
