                                                  FYI
Dear Parents,
Id like to take this opportunity to share some information that many of you may not be aware of.  If you suspect that your child is having difficulty with either speech or language development, you may refer your son or daughter for a Speech/Language Screening.  Areas of language that may be addressed by a Speech/Language Pathologist include listening comprehension, understanding  basic concepts, expression of complete sentences,  vocabulary development, and interactional skills, to name a few. Feel free to contact me at 675-2165 @ Ext. 2753 and Id be glad to screen your childs speech/language development or answer any questions you may have regarding you childs speech or language.

                             BE A GOOD SPEECH MODEL
For some younger children (Kindergarten, 1st Grade),  many speech sounds (r,s,l sounds, sound blends) may be too difficult for them to say, despite your repeated attempts at getting them to say these sounds.  Their speech muscles may just not be developed enough to allow them to say specific sounds or they may be continuing an early pattern of speaking.  In the earlier grades, it may be helpful just to model the correct word if the child mispronounces it without expecting them to repeat it, especially if they are becoming frustrated upon trying to say the word;  for example if he/she says woad instead of  road,  you can just say Oh, you mean road.  The child is then not compelled to repeat the word;  yet, he/she is hopefully listening to your good model of speech.
