We are a group called Lesbian Avengers from Gainesville, Florida that organizes around issues that affect all women. We know that women are the fastest growing prison population, and we are interested in learning from you what you feel are the most critical needs of women in Florida prisons. We would like to fight prisons in any way possible-from pressuring the government and police to stop locking people up, to writing letters with women in prison.

Please let us know what issues you feel are most important. Some issues that we can think of to choose from are:

Private prisons

Abuse from guards

Working with little or no pay

Drug war

Mandatory minimums

Control units

Death penalty

Sexual assault

Poor education and health care in prisons

Isolation from friends and family

We are also interested in hearing about your personal situations, if you wish to share, and we want to support in any way we can. Right now we have the ability to establish a pen-pal project and possibly send items that are needed.
