| Chapter Fifty Five The person who has Great Virtue, is like a naive child. The poisonous bees and snakes do not sting him, the ferocious beasts do not grapple him, the birds of prey do not launch on him. His bones are weak and his sinews are tender, hence they are firm and strong. He does not know the union of male and female so his organs are sensitive and aroused. hence his Essence (jing) is at its height. He may cry all day and night yet he will never be hoarse, hence his Harmony (he) is at its height. To know Harmony is to understand Eternity, to understand Eternity is to understand Illumination; To nourish other's birth is to know Humanity, the heart activates the Creative Energy to become his Strength. To be trapped in static shapes and forcefully strengthen it is to ensure eventual decadence, hence it is not utilizing the Dao. Anything not adhering to the Dao, will be terminated prematuredly. |
