Ah Heng's Daoism Page
Chapter Fifteen

Therefore the wisdom of the ancient Enlightened one,
is subtle, deep and mysterious which inter-connects to the present,
but not easily fanthomed by the now reified knowledge.
If I force those normal people to understand,
I am only discussing its static manifestations:

This is similar to crossing a frozen stream in winter,
always at a loss of what to do, looking worryingly at surroundings,
watching out for self-imposed dangers,
ever cautious that the ice will break,
as if everything is done not enough to protect the self.

But the Enlightened crossing the stream is different.
He is genuine as if an uncarved wood,
widely-empty as if he is One with nature,
into the world as if he is part of the manifested presence.
[deep and empty as the ocean,
flowing through like a gentle breeze]

Who can be worldly, yet as clear and empty as the Enlightened?
Who can be inert, yet flowing gracefully like the Enlightened?

Holding the Dao is not to fill too much to the brim.
Because I have excess emptiness,
I can constantly renew and be One with nature.

(Heng: I laugh as I look at other translated versions of the original text, who are like crossing the frozen stream to the other side and exactly as what this Chapter has described. Haha...)
