| Introduction to Red Wine |
| Wine, Wine Wine... By the virtue of fact that each and every wine tastes different and no two wines is exactly the same (just like women), the world of wine is vast and bottomless indeed. It would be a great challenge to understand all about wine and finally to be conferred a Master of Wine - the official title for anyone who knows practically everything about wine. For a beginner (like myself), I start drinking wine because I like the feeling of getting high ;-p. Hence one fine day, I jus took a trip to the NTUC and bought a bottle of wine to enjoy at home. Since then, you can say that Im really addicted to its unique taste and begin to find out more about this strange liquid. |
| White wine, Red wine? There are basically two large types of wine white wine and red wine. I started out with white wine... and soon before long, I began to buy bottles of red wine to try. Since then, Ive been fascinated by red wine (not that white wine is no good). Red wine is fascinating because of its beautiful and rich color that at first attracted me (maybe reminded me of Ribena :-) And after reading some books and getting more information, I was opened up to a totally new world and started to appreciate a vast world of red wine that I had not known before. |
| Yucky!! First Taste of Wine At first I thought that wine tasted like Ribena for it looks strangely familiar too. Well anyone (including my frens whom Ive offered a glass to start with) thought so. This is far from the truth. For a start, NOT a single wine is sweet (as sweet as Ribena that is). To any beginner, wine just tastes bitter, sour and acidic barely easy to drink, not to mention enjoyable at all. Hence it may not be surprising to find that often beginners are disappointed with the taste. In fact, they can hardly finish the first glass of red wine offered to him and is forced to swallow them later. This is my first experience too. Wine Appreciation: Second Taste of Wine However, after you have used to the bad taste of wine, the subsequent taste is simply amazing. It is very important that you have to go beyond the first difficult taste so as to discover the true tastes of wine. After that, you will get to taste the subtle nuances that make all wines so great! It may be some time before you get used to it, so please be patient if you are a true wine lover. The time that one gets use to the 'bad' taste depends on each individual, but it helps to drink more of them. So please acquire the taste before you really give up!! :-) For appreciating red wine, it is a great insight to know that red wine is appreciated mainly not only of its taste (of the tongue) but also of the complex aromas that surrounds your mouth and your nose before, during and after you drink the wine. Hence the appreciation even starts BEFORE the wine is drunk. ----- Hence let me introduce to you the basic methods of appreciating red wine.
