Metroid (continued)
Special Features Metroid is really the most memorable game I had ever played at any one time. For a beginner, be ready for an adventure that will take you weeks and months to complete. The game has always remained an enigma that bewilders me for many many years to come. No game in the 80s can rival its complexities and intensive gameplay.
Not only that, the game also has its most famous ending... who can expect that Samus is really a GIRL in disguise?! Though its an open secret now, it has shocked me thoroughly the very first time I completed the game! Ok, now I pose a challenge to gamers around: have you seen Samus in PURPLR BIKINI running around and blasting monsters throughout the game? Well, I managed to do just that! You can only unlock this secret if you played through the game a SECOND TIME round and complete it under 2 hours to reveal his... er... her true identity. I have played it more than five times over to reveal this secret, and this shows how much time and effort I put into playing the game! Anyway, anyone knows who the hell is 'Justin Bailey'??!! (hee hee... ;-)
Last Word To sum it all, Metroid is simply GREAT! But even if I said this, nothing prepares me for its sequel on the Super NES - Super Metroid - which revolutionalizes the whole gaming experience a second time! Super Metroid is truly one of the FINEST GAME that ever existed in the 21st Century! But all these glories belong to the past... Soon Metroid Prime, the latest Metroid installation on the Game Cube, is going to blow gamers away a third time round!! Even EGM gave it a full 10 to place it among the ranks of the platinum series!! But, that is of course another story...
Rating: 10!! (at its time), 9.5 (now)
Other Hey! Do you know that the Instruction Book in Metroid has a Chinese section? It is effectively bilingual! I can hardly hide my surprise when I took it out to scan some pictures recently. Moreover, Metroid brings back many fond memories. It is the very first game that I pestered my Mum to buy when I had my first NES machine in my Primary school days. I never regretted the decision and have became addicted to the game ever since. It is a true classic which never fails to delight me even till now. |
