We, the Global Anti-Imperialism Grassroots Islamic Organization, would like to express distaste for the sudden execution of the former president of Iraq Saddam Hussein on the Muslim Holy Day of Eid. We also condemn the unfair trial and the use of questionable documents to sentence the former president. In the opinion of this organization, the execution of the leader (even a tyrant) at such a joyous time is akin to an insult on all Muslims.
As Muslims it is our duty to hold sacred the life of all those under our care, even criminals. According to the teachings of Islam, a man cannot be executed in such a bogus trial which has been referred by Amnesty International as having serious flaws. To execute an individual, one must have concrete evidence and there should exist no doubt of the guilt of the accussed. The fact that the puppet leadership of post-occupation Iraq would perform such an act, with American blessing, shows the extend of the desensitivation of Muslim feelings in the minds of the American government and the post-occupation government of Iraq.
We firmly believe the execution of the former president Saddam Hussein was carried out by American supervision to insult the National Iraqi resistance and to mock the world-wide Muslim community on their joyous Eid celebrations. We ask the Americans and their supporters what rationale would they have to execute a Muslim leader on one of the Muslim holy days. The only reason that can exist for such a horrible disrespect for Islam is a deep apathy for Iraqis and Muslims.
Our organization would like to make it clear that we do not condone the actions of the former president Saddam Hussein, especially on the his tough stance on domestic opposition. The former president was responsible for countless horrors which he inflicted on those who oppossed him politically and those who he saw as a threat. Yet when it comes to the harm inflicted on the ordinary Iraqis, we believe that the governments of the West have far exceeded the former president Saddam Hussein. These governments were responsible for the UN sanctions on food, water, and medicine which starved two million Iraqis, including a million children, to death and also periodic bombing of Iraqi civilians during the 1990's. The Americans invaded Iraq on lies and were directly responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians. The post-colonial puppet government of Iraq headed by Nuri al Maliki is responsible for the deaths of countless civilians by the use of death squads and extra-judicial executions. There is also need to mention the disintegration of Iraq, which was only possible after the removal of Saddam Hussein.
In conclusion, we reiterate our outrage to the execution of the former president of Iraq Saddam Hussein at the time of the Muslim holy festival of Eid al Adha via a sham trial which oppossed all standards of international law. We recognize the former president Saddam Hussein did use excessive force against people who oppossed his rule, especially during the earlier part of his rule. We would like to convey some of the under-reported positive achievements of his rule (though few they may be) in making Iraq the strongest military of the Arab world during the days of his rule, for supporting the rights of the Palestinians and extending a hand of friendship to them, for supporting the rights of women in Iraq and providing jobs for women, for making Iraq one of the greatest education centers of the Arab world, for uniting Iraq and keeping it together during his rule, for providing all the facilities of food, water, electricity to modernize Iraq. So after examining all that the former president had done for Iraq and the chaotic situation which exists today, the new leadership in Iraq is many times more sinister and cruel than the former president ever was. The world has lost one dictator, yet what of the more brutal dictators who are openly supported by the Western establishment. We now see what becomes of those who side against their own people in favor of foreign governments, they are disposed of when not needed anymore by their masters in Washington. Iraqi history will look to the past at the rule of the former president Saddam Hussein longing for the peace which they may not experience again for a long time.
